Why is Paul McCartney so famous/successful?

Neither his Wings nor his solo carrer is great
He just benefited from Lennon's talent and the Beatles success

[OK, maybe he wrote some good songs.....]

Yeah, he really did write some good songs. He and Lennon were both somewhat successful after The Beatles broke up. I think they both benefited from working with each other. The both of them with Ringo Starr and George Harrison formed the greatest band ever.

wait a sec, he has some awesome stuff. he's also a great businessman and owns most of Europe. many of his songs are in commercials and such, which pays a pretty penny.
Band on the run and Live and let Die are 2 of my favorites.

was it him that sang "Yesterday?"

If so, his voice is great, a very unique sounding tenor.

Yes, but I think he was much better in "There Are Places I Remember".

Yesterday was written by Lennon

and anyway it's more a Beatles song than a McCartney one

That's "In My Life" and that was one of Lennon's songs.

McCartney had a similar tune called "Here There And Everywhere".

No. Bzzt! Wrong. "Yesterday" was one of McCartney's tunes, and he's the only Beatle who played on the recording. It's just his voice, his guitar, and a string quartet.

"We Can Work it Out", "Hello, Goodbye", "Come Together", "Day Tripper" are just a few that still sound like they were made yesterday.

I think one were to take The Beatles' songwriting and mix it with The Rolling Stones musicality, a perfect band would form.

The Beatles are the perfect band IMO.

McCartney's best imo is Hey Jude. Even Lennon was said to be quite fond of the song.

hey jude, dont make it back, take a sad sonng, and make it betterrrr, remember to let her out of your heart and you can start to make it better

# of times one or more Rollings Stones have guested in a Beatles recording: 3
# of times the Rolling Stones have recorded a Beatles song: 1

He doesnt get enough credit for his singing voice because everybody focuses on the syrupy ballads - he's one of the best rock screamers STILL even at his age. He's got pipes.
