parents getting in the way

i started lifting weights a little over a year ago, and i gradually more and more serious and i started to enjoy it more and more.

within a year i went from 145 lbs and 32 inch waist to 195 lbs 33 inch waist. i have also made huge improvements in all lifts, and my gains keep coming faster and faster. i would really like to continue for as long as possible.

but i have a problem, my fat phobic parents say that i am getting too big and should stop eating so much and gaining so much weight. needless to say i am more than a little motivated to continue.

my parents are stubborn and hard to talk to, and i WILL continue to lift and eat regardless but i would much rather convince them to give up trying to stop me then have to fight them....

has anyone else had this problem? and if so what did you do about it?

a lot of parents have the wrong impression of lifting. They think it will become an obsession instead of a healthy hobby. You can either try to educate them but usually older people are already set in there way. How old are? and how soon are you out of the house if you are still there? my parents say the same thing, oh well to each his own. just keep putting on the pounds and ignore negative influences for now. good luck

The answer is simple, kill them. Problem solved.

Seriously, why don't you find out WHY they are concerned. There has to be a specific problem not just "you're getting too big". Of course going from 145 to 195 in a year is pretty significant, sure you arn't taking anything?

Those kind of actions from parents suck.
They're not happy that their son wants to live a healthy life and exercise instead of going out to get drunk and high.
My parents were the opposite. They supported me and even checked to make sure I didnt take too many days off the gym.:D
Just talk to them and tell them how you feel about the sport. If they dont understand just ignore them. They dont know any better.

I have a simple answer(I must quote victorian guy, a gentleman and scholar)

My recommendation:

Pop a SHITLOAD of Halo and then TAKE BLOODY CHARGE LAD!!!!!!!!!!!

Naver said he was natural. And just thinking about it...50 lbs in one year = about 4 lbs per month. I could be wrong here, but 4 lbs a month every month for a year sounds a little beyond natural potential...unless there is a good deal of fat in that 50lbs...in which case your parents are right. Are you going for the power lifter look or the body builder look? I mean...are you ripped?

well, since he put on 50 pounds and gained a mere inch in the waist then i'd wager to say that he's probably a fairly lean, big dude

Do you mean they are fat or afraid you'll get fat?

If it's the first. Be respectful, but tell them it is your body and your life. Be frank that you don't want to be overweight as they are because it isn't healthy. As soon as you can, you might have to consider moving out on your own if they don't come around.

If it's the second, show them your goals for being a bodybuilder. Bodybuilder get huge (if their DNA lets them) but not fat (unless they are sloppy bulkers). When you have a ripped 6 pack and veins bulging through your skin and women trip over themselves looking at you on the street, they'll know you aren't fat.

tell

them to quite being lazy and do some research for their own health. Tell them to find the negative aspects of weight training and exercise and if they can present the facts to you then you'll quite. I bet they'll be too lazy to even look into it.
