Package Refused - Need Help!

Unexpectedly a member of my family was at my house as the mailman was delivering mail. As the package I was expecting had a fake name my relative refused the package. The refusal shows up on the USPS tracking site. I'm not sure whether the return address was a real address or made up. I assume if it's real and goes to the return address it will be refused by the recipient. I'm guess a postal inspector will open the package and begin an investigation.

I have a completely clean house and have wiped my PCs with evidence-eliminator. If they attempt a controlled delivery I will refuse the package. I also won't order anything else at this address ever.

What else should I do? Am I likely to get into trouble over this?

Any help appreciated.

Unless your prints are inside and they have yours on file and they even bother to dust the contents.

Thanks bro. My prints aren't on the package or on file. If anyone calls or comes to house I'll deny the package has anything to do with me and end the conversation immediately.

I assume my address will now be monitored for some time?

Dunno, depends on alot of things.

If they do start asking questions, be sure to ask them questions right back (like an innocent person would).

e.g. "So what's in this package?"
"was it dangerous?"
"Come on! What was in it?"
"Really! Who do you think sent that?"
"Does this happen alot?"
"What can I do to help?"

etc.

Often the decision to follow up on this stuff comes from the investigating officer.

"Nah, the guy didn't know shit..." - you are written off as a "nobody".

"I don't know, the guys smelled greasy to me..." - they decide you likely had something to hide and look to see if they have "anything on you" (evidence, criminal history, etc.).

Seems to me that's the usual case.

Anyone else care to comment on this fellow's woes?

Yea but if youre a 250lbs shredded freak of nature bodybuilder, this might be suspicious. I suggest moving to another state and changing your identity, just to be safe.
