Oxycontin vs. MS-Contin.....whats the difference?

As many of you know, my husband, who is a member of this board, has been addicted to Oxycontins now for approx 2 months since his back surgery. Yesterday, i brought him to his Neurologist (he did the operation) and he prescribed him a drug called MS-Contin 30mg. They are sustained-release Morphine tablets. Are these even stronger than oxy's? The reason he was given these was because his tolerence to oxycontins was growing out of control (160-200mg/day) and they are in the process of finding him an addiction specialist that will cooperate with our health insurance. Are these MS-Contins stronger than Oxy's? Thank you all for your help and support since i've come onto this board, i truly appreciate everyone's help!:) THANK YOU ALL!!

MS-Contin

It's morphine sulfate - and a bit stronger than oxycodone I believe. All of this really depends on the dose. I'm not an addiction specialist but I really don't see much of a reason for switching to morphine. Sounds like the doc is trying to do some sort of tapering for your guy. Make sure he doesn't chew the pills, otherwise it won't be timed-released and all the drug will hit him at once, negating the whole concept of tapering and being pretty dangerous.

I have seen a some study were morphine is stronger than oxys.

But someone I know who was addictive to oxys, tried morphine and said that they weren't as affect as oc's. They are both nothing to be fucked with..
