damn thats a really good strict press...

i never even thought of using different grips on overhead presses lol

how does close grip feel? does that hit your tris more like a close grip bench would?

glad your hammie is getting better

it does hit the tris a little more and my theory would be helps the lockout on a moderate/regular grip overhead. 205 felt heavy, but good:)
hope to be able to use some kind of leg drive again next week
did 2 sets of push jerks with bar and 65 at end of workout, did not hurt. so it is promising:)

nice work bro.............. are you doing these seated or standing???

glad the hammie is feeling better. that bruise looked nasty.

standing overhead press, the pic didn't do the bruise justice:(

i know it was bad lighting, but im could see it and figure out what it looked like.

but thats a heck of a ohp........ looks like you've caught up to me, 3 weeks ago i got 205 for 1 rep max at the end of my Squat/Bench/Deadlift day.......... your progressing so fast.

see u soon bro,
everything went well last night:)

you have never worried much bout strict press either, and btw, u did strict pin press 275 from the chin, in my book, that is a good strict press:), really good let me rephrase

strong press man, isnt' that your own bodyweight for 3 reps?

He weighs 225-230.

I thought he weighed in at 215-210 at contest time, he looks more define lately

He got on the scale, without eating any food, the day before the Bluegrass at 225 even. With a few good meals in him he is an EASY 230 with good signs of abs at 5'9".

i press from below the chin, can't really get the bar to touch my clavicle. and yes, no leg drive. in strongman tourney's, the press is counted if it starts below the chin.

When you do your strict overhead pressing, do you press from the clavicle? No leg drive...

I can take a thick bar down to my clavicle...and a reg OL bar pretty darn close. No leg drive at all.

We also use a pretty close grip too...

202 x 5

220 x 3

do you guys think using a close grip ohp will bring up my regular grip overhead press?

We use a close grip on overheads because it overloads the triceps. Triceps are the most important thing in Strongman...because you can use leg drive which will get the bar to the top of your head anyway and your triceps have to lock it out. Also...on the log press or viking press...you take a fairly close grip (24" apart) so we train that close too.

Note that we were using a 2 3/8" bar in that video...
