Overhand or underhand pull ups

over hand (as far as you back goes) works more on the upper part of your lats. Underhand works more on the lower lats. Lower lats give you more of that V-shape in my opinion. Other than that....I think they're about the same.
 
Since you can't isolate parts of your lats.....I say do whichever one you can maintain better form with.
 
Yup. Don't think one is particularly "better" than the other. I'd say do both, but spend more time on whichever excercise is weaker for you.
