overdoing it?

I dont know if Im training correctly. I am working out certain muscles one day at a time. example - bi's & tri's one day, chest one day, shoulders one day etc. with all these days, including a day of cardio, Im in the gym 6 days in a row. Im giving my muscles 5 days of rest, but I have heard this might not be enough. My main goal is to bulk up more. Im fairly new at this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

6 days in a row. way too much.. you shoudn't be in the gym more than 3 days... my current split
monday- chest/ calves
tuesday- back/hams/ abs
wednesday- off
thurs- shoulders-calves
friday- bis/ tris- abs
saurday- quads- calves
sunday off

if you are doing a day of cardio, 30- 40 min max at 80 - 85% heart max heart rate is all that is needed.

Also if your new.. read up on this forum, diet is Extremely important! you should have a ratio of carbs/ prtoein/ fats sumthing like 50/40/10 or 40/ 40/ 20, you can play around and figure out which is best for you, since everyone is different. Right now im taking in a lot more protein than carbs tho, and takin in only healthy fats.
hope this helped

common advice is not to train more than 2 days in a row. A 4 days split works perfectly in this case: MON-TU TH-FRI you can throw in cardio on WED and SUN if you wish.

sweed, thanks for the help. I will try to fit more muscle groups in fewer days. How many exercises are you doing per muscle. I get pressed for time, cause I hit the gym around 5:45 - 6:00, then I have to showered and ready to leave the gym at 7:15. I guess I could try to wake up earlier, but I have a hard enough time getting up when I do already.

Depends on the day. Usually 3-4, sometimes, maybe 5, but if your not on a cycle, I wouldn;t do more than 4 exercises or 12 sets. I have woken up early to work out.. 5 am for lifting isn't for me.. too tired and dont have much intensity... why can't u work out later in the day - 6-7pm?

I have to do the family thing. I have a 4 yr old son, if I work out after work, I dont get home till 7:30. My son goes to bed at 8:00. After my son goes to bed, thats the only alone time I get with my girl. "She works long hours on the weekends". How long are you usualy in the gym for? Do you think I could fit a schedule like yours in an hour and a half.

If i workout by myself I can workout a lot shorter. .. I rest inbetween sets a minute to a minute and a half.. sometimss 2 minutes when doing squats and deadlifts. Everything is definetly doable in under an hour, however workin out with 2 or 3 guys can take more

I've tried several of the split routines, 2 days on, 1 off, 2 or even 3 body parts per day.....and I get best results from 1 body part a day, cardio after the workout for 15-20 minutes (at a hard pace). I blast that body part for maybe 45 minutes. Any routine mentioned by others obviously has worked well for them, so give it a try, but remember, everyone is different, so you need to experiment and find out what works best for you.

It's what works best for you and your goals. For me WO 4 days a week with 2 cardio is great. But (as long as I get legs in once a week), I don't keep things the same way from week to week. I change the excersises, the weight, the reps. However I feel that day.

If you go over to the weight training and lifting board, you'll find a plethera of answers as well as some new routines to try.
good luck!

Just wanted to thank everyone that answered. I am going to experiment with different routines, and see what happens.
