Over-training question...

Nichole

New member
Yesterday evening I had a really tough work-out...I got a little dizzy at one point and felt sick after pushing myself on the leg press and after doing some glute work...it was a pretty intense wotk-out in which I MAY have slightly over done it.

I was planning on going for a bike ride today...but feel so drained today! I even went back to bed at noon after getting some stuiff donw around the house (no work today). Could this be from last night's work out??? And should I push myself to do the cardio today? I feel like I'm being lazy w/o it...

Nichole,

You're not overtrained from that one workout...that's cumulative, something that happens over time.

But if you often push yourself when you're very drained, like you are today, you'll overtrain sooner than later. So I definitely wouldn't go biking. Maybe you'll be a little guilty about it, but our bodies don't grow, get leaner etc. based on our emotions :)

Besides, I bet your muscles will thank you for the respite when you go at it hard again tomorrow.

Thanks...yeah...I have been pushing myself really hard lately...3 mile outdoor runs, 11-13 mile outddor bike rides and total body lifting sessions with light cardio (all on separate days)...but I've been going pretty hard lately...I guess yesterday was the last straw. Felt like I ws being a wimp if I skipped out today...but you're right...sometimes you just need to hear it from someone else, I guess, lol.

Hey Nicole,

OT happens over time (as guldukat said) but given your current regime, your body could be tired. Mentally you may feel ok but physically, you may be speant. How many days in a row have you trained?? There is nothing wrong w/a day off once in a while. Rest is just as important as training... it's when you bosdy heals!! :)

I also have an over-training question, if you don't mind nichole (don't want to steal your post :verygood: , but how will you know when you overtrain? Will come down to trial and error?

Everyone is different... my rule of thumb is if you think your overtraining.. then you probably are. OT wil inhibit gains as much as not training at all. :supercool

Get some sleep, lots of food, and hit it when you feel like it.

I ONLY push myself in times like you are having now when there is a contest coming up.

Like now...

Thanks guys :) Appreciate the advice...I have been training 6-7 days a week for some time now...I only lift 3 days a week, but I run and bike as well...of course I have my lighter days, etc...and I try to take days off...but my day just doesn't feel complete w/o some type of physical activity, lol.

I pretty much rested that day that I posted...met up with friends at the gym later on to dance, stretch...etc....so once I had slept a whole lot and stretched out I felt much better...but definitley needed it that day.
