Can you over-arch your back ?
Is it dangerous ?
[Can too much of a good thing be detrimental ?]

When I'm doing DL I tend to arch so much that it 's somehow painful w/o any weight

In what direction are you arching...back up like the Arch of St. Louis? Hopefully not that direction. :) I'm sure you can over-arch your back. On a deadlift, IMO - you would want somewhat of a slight arch, but more of a flatter back, like in a Good Morning. Make sure you are using proper deadlift form. Check out the Deadlift sticky in this PL forum. Take care.

yep..i wouldnt worry too much if you dont arch when deadlifting AS long as your back is flat and doesnt round then you will be perfectly fine..

I will tell you this my low back gets sore from arching on the bench press..so yes its possible to get sore from arching too much

My chiropractor tried to suggest I shouldn't bench for that very reason. We settled on my being aware and careful.

There are a couple of different thoughts on this subject. I spoke with Louies Simmons and he claims that longer torso's equal longer benches. I for one can't keep tight without an arch and work on set-up and form for bench constantly.

I did see Mike Brown bench 735 with his feet straight out in front of him so you have to figure that out for yourelf.

Squat and dead, a strong hard arch is essential to keep your ass out there and not to let the suit make you its bitch.

Make sense?

Yes :)

I don't arch that much while doing bench press and I can have almost a straight back for front squat but deads and back/box squat I'm so afraid to screw (once more) my lower back that I hyper arch

Blut Wump, your chiro advised you against arching when benching !??

To be more accurate, he advised me against benching at all because of the likelyhood of putting stress on my sacro-illiac joint area. When I got onto the bench I used to feel tension there and would spend a few seconds adjusting my body to minimise it. I was a bit of a mess at the time, lower-back-wise. Hamstring stretches helped a lot.

On reflection, I think I'd spent too long out of the gym and allowed my posterior chain to atrophy.
