Over 40 to 45 year old question. All ages advice welcome.

I'm fifty and have recovered from cancer, last chemo was twenty months ago. I go balls to the walls because I know what death is. Most of the guys in the gym just stare at me. They hardly get up a sweat where I have to change my shirts three times a workout.

I was doing clean and press the other day and when I was done with my set one of the personal trainers gave me an ovation, she's a cute blonde tight body. The guy on the hack squat machine next to me looked like I might bite him.

Just realize you're a rare breed and press on.

I think that's the best part for me, is that I really honestly enjoy it. I don't feel like I "have" to go this, I really look forward to my workout when I get off work, and really look forward to my workouts on weekends. No honestly, I do have a life :) but the time I'm at the gym, I make the most of it, and focus on what I'm doing. I think this goes for about all of us sick gym rats on this forum... we just love our sport!

I must add my .2 cents to this thread:
It's great to see some older guys motivated and getting in there, even after surgical procedures and bad accidents. It takes alot of dedication now, I can't imagine what it will be like 20 years on. It gives me hope that age shouldn't take away my ability to keep doing something I enjoy. Keep up the good work.

Thanks from all us "OLD GUYS" lol, just playin with you,

It is amazing what a cute blond and a tight body will do for you!

Thanks big guy, maybe I need to look a little closer I might not be as alone as I think

42 and going strong ...

I've been there done that ... broken left wrist 2 times , broke right wrist 3 times , broken left clavical , fracture on C-2 AND C--3 , several broken ribs , broken fingers and toes, 5 broken noses , crushed my right eye orbit which they rebuilt with a bone graph off my right hip ... 400 plus stitchs over the years and 16 hours plastic surgery on my face plus numerous teeth !!

What does'nt kill you makes you stronger ... at 42 i'm the only guy in the gym i go to that can bench into the mid 400's ... fact is just the other day i was doing a warm up set of 12 reps with 310 and had 3 guys in there early 20's almost shit on the floor watching me ...

I'm 5' 10" 230lbs with no more then 10% BF .... I could pass for late 20's early 30's no problem ...

Anyone who has broke an arm or wrist and fought back to re-gain there gym stature will know what it's like ... In 1998 i broke both my arms in an accident and had both wrists pinned back together with 4 pins in each wrist ... these were compound breaks ( which means right through , not just a fracture ) 7 years later i'm typing this to you and i'm right back to my pre accident form ...

Don't for one second believe that i don't cringe on the bench when i unrack 400lbs just at the thought of my wrists snapping again !!!

Here is a picture of me feeding my son who was 3 months old at the time ...

Thats me with a cast on both arms and a face recovering from 12 hours surgery !!

Boxer, push on man between you an big joe, my accident is looking less and less to effect me in the long run.

Love to lift with you maybe about 75lbs less, but glad I do don't have to get in the ring with you!

Thanks brother

Wow!! What an encouraging thread. I'll be 40 in July. Ive been out for about 3yrs now do to starting my own company. I am starting back at the gym this monday. I miss the strength and being tight! Maybe some advise from you guys on a routine and a light cycle at 39. My goal is to get 3-4 mths under my belt and hit something light. Any trusted online sources? Thanks for all the replys in advance. This thread has made my day.... :)

Good for you man!!! Keep it up. We only get so much time in this world to be what we can be. I am 38 an have been lifting on a regular basis since I was in jr high. Keeping my body strong is part of my life. Good to show young people that you don't have to turn into a turd at age 35.
