This is inspired by decem's thread on steroid use.
As decem pointed out, there have been numerous studies coming out lately evidencing that eating less can greatly improve longevity. Studies with mice have suggested that subjects with a restricited caloric intake can live twice as long as mice that are allowed to eat whenever they want.
So this begs the question:
If eating healthier food in smaller amounts extends one's life, would it stand to reason that eating too much (even too much healthy food) would shorten one's life? I mean when you really think about it, were our bodies really designed to handle 300 grams of protein and 4000 calories a day? I seriously doubt it. Even if you are eating clean, do you worry that you are overloading your kidneys and other vital organs with excessive protein? Do you worry that there might be permanent damage to your metabolic processes when you finally stop eating 8 meals a day and taking in 4000-5000 calories?
I think we owe it to ourselves to examine whether what we all think is "healthy" is really the best thing for our bodies.
