I did back today... I didn't get over 315 for reps on deads... and I'll tell you why...

When I was picking the bar off the pegs (I pick it off a rack... and set it down on 225 or under)... the act of picking it off the pegs, I felt a tweak in my back... upper... on the spine not to the left... or right... but ON the spine... it hurts to turn my head either way... or to lower my chin to my chest... (upper back, spine, in between shoulder blades)

I finished my back workout... in some degree of pain, and was careful... decided not to go up any higher than 315... as it felt like I didn't have an upper back to lift with...

Any therapy advice?

ice and lay down, that happened to my friend last year, same thing from the sounds of yer descriptin, he just stuck an ice pack on his back and put an ace bandage around his shoulder and under his other arm to hold it on.

I've felt this exact thing before. More than once. Both times were from forward stress on my neck. The worst time was on the mat, on my back I was folded up(had my legs rolled over my head then the asshole layed on me pressing down) and I felt a snap. I couldn't move my head to the side for days and lowering it was almost as bad. It was a really sharp pain right where you said.

Why do you do the first pull from the pegs bro? Why not the floor? The very act of doing this is abnormal(not deadlift form), so you'd be vulnerable to tweaks, even with light weight.

It felt like my upper back tweaked... don't know how to explain it.

Yes, Thai... I realize this now... 225 or under... I usually load it up on the pegs... and lift off and lower to the floor... just easier to put the plates on... trust me, from here on out... I'll keep it on the floor after 135!

C-ditty -- Thai -- what did you do about it?

hmmm, last fall my upper back rounded forward on snatch grip deads and i felt a "pop" sounds real similar but a bit different than what happened to you.

Ah, to solve your plate loading problem, just use one 45 and like 20 dimes. My gym has 2 heights of plates, so one big one inside and you can easily rack the rest on the floor...its nice.(sorry, not to rub it in):)

I swore a LOT. After that, I had my girlfriend mash a shitload of really strong analgesic stuff into it. I sort of forced myself to move my neck around a little. I held it downward(sucked bad) and kinda rotated as much as I could. Other than that, I just waited it out. It took a few days, and felt tight for a couple weeks.

Just so you know, tomorrow morning is going to be horrible. You won't be able to look down when you take a piss so I hope you're a good shot. You'll be walking around like a zombie with your shoulders following whichever direction your head needs to turn, and you'll be leaning forward a lot because you won't want to look at anything lower than your chin. Good luck man:D

hmmm

Might be a pinched disc....You could try ice to keep the swelling down and some stretches. Try sleeping on your side for a while and don't pick anything heavy up (obviously).

Gravity boots might help stretch, too (they helped stretch out my spine when something similar happened to me) but I'm not sure...

Don't think there's much you can do for such injuries aside from take it easy for a while and ice the area down.
