I'm not sure about var powder...but I was under the impression, that (in general) powder/tabs keep for a very long time. The degredation is minimal/negligable over years.

That isn't a bad price for finished caps. I would say with packagaing and cost of caps... They are making maybe 50-60 dollars of profit per 100.
