Take it from someone whose 1st amp burst in his hand - get an amp opener. You have no idea how angry you get when you pop an amp and the test goes all over the place.

I highly reccomend this method, just use a fine grit metal file and score all the way arounf the neck of the amp then take the cap of a pen or a sharpie and snap. Works like magic. I'm currently in nursing shool and there's a trick we use when there is some of the medication stuck in the neck of the amp, hold the amp at your side by the neck and do a 360 windmill twirl of your arm. Works everytime. Just be sure to be in an open area

I use a file as mentioned above, but I hear a cigar cutter(whatever you call it) works pretty good for scoring it.
