Ong Bak : A Review

it was an action flick, right?
Not really. It's more of a really bad comedy. Imagine a movie where all the dialogue is off and the plot is non-existent. The only thing that's of any interest in this movie is the action scenes...

...and like I said, I've seen better scenes in porn.

That dude can fight. A lot of cool Muay Boran moves... I watched the movie about 5 times in Thai... I don't speak Thai, so I don't know if the plot was good or not.

yes, it is an action/martial arts flick. and if you're expecting (or even wanting) anything like good acting in this film...you're nuts.

i thought his fighting style was pretty cool, at least somewhat different than most of what you see in films. too many elbow strikes, perhaps, but still.

He was using Muay Boran moves (Burmese boxing I guess it it called) it is like the battlefield cousin to the more sporty Muay Thai... The stuff he did i
n the movie would actually work in real life...

I loved the action scenes.

Typical Thai martial arts movie, over acting, slapstick humour, portrays foreigners as stupid and without honor but the humble Thai hero saves the day. Supposed to be Muay Thai but actually has very little authentic Muay Thai in the movie, most of it is acrobatics. Was a huge hit in Thailand because the standard of their movies are so low. They have a newer movie along the same lines out now called Tom Yam Gung. Some ok action scenes, a stupid tuk-tuk chase scene but that's about it and yes all Thai men are really that ugly!

i saw this the other night, and while i think the guy can fight and fight well (lots of snappy repeated round kicks, good mechanics of movement with his elbows/throwing the opponent around) the plot was AWFUL (awful as in i nearly stopped watching it)

some of the fight scenes were great, though involved the opponent stepping squarely into a knee/elbow (especially the first hit, with the free overknee to the sternum)

apart from that, it was alright

and yes, thai men are beyond ugly

Yes, the fighting was awesome in it, but got repetitious... the same jumping knee and flying elbow all the time. And the plot did indeed suck too.

i heard there are good throws/takedowns too... is that true?

i just wanna see the fight scenes after these rave reviews about the plot
