true. chemically enhanced or not, the amount of weight some of them can press above there head compared to their bodyweight is nothing short of phenomenal.enigma4dub said:they are systematically doping from the top down. they are still incredible, especially the light weights
Dial_tone said:I don't think all of them do but the top ones probably do. I had a friend named Bryan Jacob that was on the 92 & 96 Olympic teams. He was clean but he wasn't a contender. He broke American records but he was 18th in '92 and 9th in '96. I think he was sick one year though.
oh yes. eastern europeans athletes go mad for teh joose.enigma4dub said:also... some countries are worse than others, russia is at the top from what i've read.
interesting assumption, considering powerlifting has never been an olympic event*The_West* said:i would go as far as to say at least 90% of olympic athletes, regardless of what event(s) they compete in use performance enhancing drugs. defienitely the powerlifters. every single one of them.

just because they dont do medals in squat, bench or deadlift?
they train to be able to move the largest amount of weight possible-they are powerlifters.
agreed .. yes they juice .. still amazing what they can do*The_West* said:true. chemically enhanced or not, the amount of weight some of them can press above there head compared to their bodyweight is nothing short of phenomenal.
why should i? they ARE powerlifters.perkele said:Yeah, but we call them weightlifters. So should you.![]()

errr..no they aren't lol. a powerlifter, by definition, is someone who trains to lift the most amount of weight possible. a shotputter or a discuss thrower would encorporate powerlifting routines into their trainng, but they are no powerlifters. so dont you roll your eyes at me!perkele said:So are shotputters and discus throwers.![]()
of course they do. how much money, advertising revenue, "nation pride" is piled on the athletes success? every one of them will be doing literally whatever they can to improve their chances of winning. performance enhanching drugs are just a tool in the arsenal for these competitors.timtim said:truth. i would venture to say closer to 95% and that includes the women.

perkele said:Yes they are, as much as weighlifters. It's all about explosive speed/power, unlike powerlifting.
As a former powerlifter, yes, a powerlifter (squat, bench, deadlift) I can definitely say that you don't call weighlifters as powerlifters. Just like you don't call triatlete as swimmers only because you find similarities in their training. Two different sports (the name of the sports).
you're just being silly now. go on then, explain the difference between a "weightlifter" and a powerlifter. i bet if you asked any of these guys and girls that pl at the olympics what their job was, or what they were, their reply would be "im a powerlifter"perkele said:Yes they are, as much as weighlifters. thank you for that, but it is of no relevance. of course i know the sport in which they compete is called olympic weightlifting. but you were trying to tell me that i shouldnt call them powerlifters.perkele said:NO! lol Thank God at least they know what sport they are into.
Why is it called Olympic Weightlifting? Probably because the sport is called a Weightlifting.

good point. perhaps i was just grouping people together by saying that "powerlifters train to lift the most weight possible"[CinnamonBuns] said:west, my bro, im pretty sure most people consider powerlifting lifting the most amount of weight possible in the most mechanicaly advantagious position. weightlifting is not powerlifting
still think your a good bro, though

i thought you said you were a "former powerlifter"perkele said:I'm a powerlifter, I don't wanna be called a weighlifter (just because I too lift weights) simply for the reason because they are two different sports. It might not mean much for those who are not in the sport, but for those are, for them it means much.
1-2 times a month I send results from a powerlifting contest to a local newspaper, and every now and then they print them as weightlifting results. Don't ask if it pisses us off.
*The_West* said:good point. perhaps i was just grouping people together by saying that "powerlifters train to lift the most weight possible"
but i just dont think that only people who comptete in squat, bench and deadlift should be called powerlifters. i consider olympic weightlifters to be powerlifters, especially seeing as the lifts they compete in require more actualy "power" (explosive force) than traditional powerlifting.

They never show it on TV cos the Americans don't do squat (ha ha-they don't though, squat=pl, this is wl).
Watch on nbcolympics.com. Some dude broke his elbow yesterday on the snatch. Fucking bar also tagged him on the back on the way down. He was screaming and shit.
Also they have this awesome cam that focuses in on the face from below. It's built into the platform. Great shots.
