well.......... that was "fun"

i have been doing hang clean and press for a while. but i got a little crazy. i was going to do a b fold type training where i would train for 3 days and do just events on day 4. but i cant afford equipment just yet, so i will take up Olympic lifts on my event day.

i tried a couple of the combinations people had posted on spatts' thread about them.

first exercise (i will describe them, as they no doubt have a name)

power clean/ into a front squat / into a military press / into a reg back squat / into a behind the neck military press.

115lbs for 3 sets of 3. each rep consisted of the order of exercises above.

next was:
power snatch / into an overhead squat / into a good morning / into a behind the neck press.

95lbs for 2 sets of 3.

last but not least.
deadlift to knee, then back to floor/ deadlift to waist, then back to knee / highpull from knee all way up, back to floor / full high pull from floor.

95lbs for 1 set of 3.

these were fun, really they were. i will start to go heavier in the mondays that follow, this was my first time trying combinations. i was strict on form and didnt use any explosion. just wanted to get a feel.

couple of things i noticed. 1) overhead squats stress the hips like there was no tomorrow, so all you powerlifters may want to think about that. 2) i much my technique on power snatch's was better than in high school doing them. it really feels good when you know you had the right technique.

really it wasnt that bad just becuase when i was in high school we use to use these movements on a weakly basis. but that was about 5 years ago.

the power cleans are good becuase i have kept doing them. the snatch took a few tries to find the groove.

there were really only 2 awkard movements. the over head squat, becuase i have never done them before, and the front squats. which i have done, i just have never done them with my hands in the powerclean position. was very hard on my wrist.

other than that it was all good.

Overhead squats are a VERY humbling exercise.

EXTREMELY HUMBLING!!

I bet if you use them for a warm up exercise to your workouts that you would get a grasp of them quicker. You think?

Either way, I really like what you are doing man.

yeah no kidding about the humbling part. actually i was doing that for a while, up untill about a month ago i was warming up on lower body day with just the bar. it felt akward like i said but not totally weird. i was able to go just below parallel with 95lbs, my hips were getting the most work, that was the most akward feeling about it. this will definitley stay in the mix as im switching back to wsb training.

thanks though, i just wanted to add something fun to the mix.

unfortunately i can't take credit for it. spatts posted up a thread a few days ago that had people posting different things up so i decided to give them a try.

yea no joke bones, if i did that first excersize i would blow chunks during the military press.

I agree 100%!!! Olympic lifting is just a big fun sweaty workout!!! I started doing a lot of power cleans, clean and jerk, and snatches for my football training. I love it!!! :)

Fun just like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer. Though quite effective you should see nice gains from it.

Cheers,
Scotsman

It is indeed awesome fun. I'm considering adding a fourth day to my split - an olympic lifting complex and events day. I'll have to try it sometime soon...

yeah i have to figure out how exactly im going to be doing this routine. i really like them but i will figure out how they will fair with WSB.

one thing i noticed though, i sweated so much more, so much more quickly in 25 minutes than i normally do in 1 hour.

New things are fun. Deciding to try something, trying it, learning about it, and perfecting it...is FUN. The OL lifts take lots of time to perfect...although 1,000 pound squatters are still trying to perfect their form too...

Have fun...lots of it.

Oh me too. I'm drenched after four sets of clean and jerk. It's just that it's such a taxing, full body exercise. Gotta love it though. :D

power clean/ into a front squat / into a military press / into a reg back squat / into a behind the neck military press.

And then when putting the bar down go into a bent row.

I did these for in season workout in wrestling once.
