OK, no car something that most can afford

Grumpy Old Man

Grumpy Old Biker Bastard
Since there seems to be a problem with a car let's do something everyone car understand.

We all know BM doesn't do shit, so a new vacuum is out, a new car is out because it seems there is a "love" or "cost" issue with a car.

Maybe she can work her magic with a brand new table saw and make a fence for the backyard.

What ya think?

I'm scared to death of those fuckers. Fraid I'll loose a finger or somethin

I loved wood shop! They only had a couple kids that lost digits.

I was not one of em cause I knew if the blade was spinning not to put your body parts close by.

Now I have a new quest for BM she is gonna move the fence!

Chris 3489076547873902--1

I already did, chill.

lolol my mom got a table saw for her birthday once.... But it was what she asked for.

You are shittin me, right? LOL That's pretty cool.

Well maybe she can come over and show me how to move the fence so that our pool equipment will no longer be the neighborhood eyesore!

No shittin' here.

She's helped remodel a couple houses, and has laid marble tile floors, a couple wood floors, and a bunch of other stuff too.

Your mom sounds a lot like my younger sister. When she and her hubby had remodeled their house she was jack-hammering, on the roof hauling shingles, painting, spackling - you name it.

DEFINITELY NOT ME. :worried:

I like to paint, not the nekkid walls, mind you, just the fun "artsy" stuff.

so i am guessing a new bed spread is also out of the question? :laugh2:

Actually we are due for some new bedding but I will delay until we can have the necessary repairs to one of the walls in the master bedroom made and then have a coupla bucks budgeted to redo the bedroom, masterbath and closet.

I can't see spending money on new bedding when the bedding we have now is adequate and goodness knows what color scheme we'll have in the bedroom. I am thinking that the master bedroom will be THE ONLY ROOM IN THE HOUSE with white walls. Not sure yet, but I like the notion of calmness, crisp, clean of white.

Before she can make a fence for the back yard, that table saw needs a better fence.

Yeah, I thought since I am going budget here I would buy a crappy saw in case she never used it, so I might just as well put a picture on the wall she still doesn't do shit

I remember seeing those when I lived in Paris back in 03. You know, I actually wouldn't mind driving one of those. I think they are kinda neat.

You see them every now and again here in Dallas/Ft Worth too. But only every once in a great while. Honestly, you see more Bentleys and Ferarris.

Give Obama his chance, he's only been in office a few months...

PS Nice Ass BTW and I mean that not as a compliment to you but to the grumps...:)

There was a Bentley Continental parked in front of my work a couple of nights ago, that'd make a nice BM car. If you can deal with a non-convertible.

I think you have a better chance of getting her to make the bed..

Bentley GT's are the popular thing around here.

Are those the ones that look like Hondas and Fords? Hell, mercedes looks like Huyndai to me. :whatever:

I just don't want a car that looks like every other car. And I have to admit it, I LOVE hood ornaments. Whatever car we get me will have to have a bad ass hood ornament.

The GTS is WAY too pricey, we looked at a GT-c was a nice car she said it was too small and looked like a hyundai. I said hummmm, walnut dash, leather seats that looked like couches and paint that looked like a mirror. Damn women don't know shit, who needs 12 cyls anyway.........

This was her choice so far, luckily Park Place is across the street from the aston martin dealer. She might end up with a VW convertible, she said they look "Cute"

Geeezzzz

I told her it looked like a damn 300 she has no idea what anything looks like. She said a BMW motorcycle looked like a harley. SO that is that. I love the Continental GT-C what a chick magnet that would be, but BM gets hit on all the time anyway......

why spend the Big Bucks?

who does NOT lust after an all american ford mustang convertible???? :whatever:

Ewwwwwwwwww no. I HATE "muscle cars". They scream trailer park to me. There was one old one I saw ONCE that I thought was very neat. I believe the grump said it was a '64 GT or whatever the hell.

Sorry if I am offending anybody but I am stating how I feel. It will be MY CAR so it's all about what I like.

And the old man is INcorrect about the VW convertible. I like the way they look with the top down, however, I HATE the way they look with the top up so that is definitely OUT. I would only get a hardtop VW bug. It seems like a fun car. I'd get it in some funky color because they are not all that uncommon anywhere. I saw one painted like a ladybug that I thought was really neat.

64 1/2 4 speed convertible in pewter, drove it till it died

Bought a toyota somethingeruther from my exbitchsterinlaw for 500$. Had 130K miles on it w/original clutch. I drove that bitch for well over a year, put plenty more miles on it. When my ex and I bought me a new car (pontiac grand am - fairly nice vehicle for me at that point in time) I gave my younger sister the toyota (I think it was an tercel or some shit. Ugly gray piece of crap) who then drove that hunk of junk into the ground. NEVER HAD ANY MAJOR ISSUES WITH IT.

So spare me the story of your mustangs.

I have no more love for a toyota tercel than I do a ford mustang.

Sorry, just how I'm put together.

Yeah and the aston martin and taurus as well as the jag we looked at (except the tauras) were all made by the same guys

Aston and Jaguar are no longer part of Ford. Jaguar is now owned by Tata, the Indian car maker, and Aston was bought out by its own management and some white knight bankers.

Yup, the way of the world, Rolls Royce will be a chinese company after BMW sells it. They will have cars being sold at walmart

I've already got one on layaway!

I am thinking if I get that BBQ I wanted and put it AND the Rolls on layaway we can drive to the park and cook out. Damn I will still have to bring my truck cause the Rolls only has wine and champagne compartments next to the barcalounger back seats, I don't know if I want burled walnut on the foot rests or camel hair. I will just have to think on that one.

You ever notice how dirt cheap you can get a lightly used Bentley? 2000 and '01 models with under 50k miles can be had for under 40 grand. Under 30 even in some cases. They're essentially RR's, and for less than the price of your typical new SUV. Crazy!

Don't you be tellin anybody!

Why ANYONE would buy any car brand-spankin new is beyond me.

fyi, i hate muscle cars too.
i mean, for me. I don't like tatoos on women either and a lot of people do.
I do, however LOVE vintage cars from the 50's in pastel colors. i think those are so damn hot.

It's all about doing your own thing. :)

I am not a hyuge fan of the pastel colored cars that you are talking about. I HATE dark colored cars (loath black) but for some reason when you are talking about cars from that era I don't mind a darker color. LOL

I really REALLY dig cars from 30's and 40's - again if they are shiny black or even a dark maroon. Dunno why that is. :whatever: If I were to ever own a car like that though, believe it or not I'd most likely have it painted a deep metalic perfect shade of red which IMHO is a cross between fire engine and candy apple. Though a nice deep dark bing cherry metalic would be awesome as well.

I'm an oddball, what can I say?

My '60 Austin-Healey would look awesome in robin's egg blue. Wish I could afford a good paint job.

Sure, only spent a minute looking on Hemmings, but here's a few. Price is up a bit, but mileage is fantastic.

Seller Notes:

BENTLEYS: 2001 and 2000 Arnage 4-doors, both black, one black inside, the other beige inside, one 29,000 miles, the other 26,000 miles, both have navigation systems, from $49,998; delivery arranged; CarFax available. Harry Kaufmann Motorcars, 866-689-1973 toll-free, 414-353-8088, WI; see many pictures of this awesome vehicle at: www.harrystoys.com**28-YR** $49,998

Look for brown Bentleys as those are the least popular color by far. They tend to be significantly cheaper as a result. The brown ones, about '99 and '00 models, with around 40-50k miles are the ones you can get down around 40k.

I understand what you are saying. If I am going to spend $1200 for a car I want one in the color I like. I always had black cars. There have been a few exceptions The Clenet was dark blue and black, Excalibur was white and the 400i was dark grey. Oh the Corniche Convertible was white and tan. I sold it to a guy in Santa Barbara 10 yrs ago, he put 2500 miles on it since he bought it, it's for sale now he ordered a Maybach and only has room for 11 cars in his garage. He sent me an email and I can buy it back from him for about the same as I sold it. But it is way more than 40k I attached a pic, the wheels were a 12k option so this would be a good deal, but BM doesn't like the body style and it's a 1980's car with 22000 miles on it, he is asking 94k.

This is the car we are considering.

2003 Azure a bit more than 40k but it is the color she wants, the red one she wanted just looks like it should be in da hood.

The Clenet was number 70, yes. The excalibur was another Excalibur. I also had a Gembala Cabriolet, 308GTS,34 Packard, 39 Daimler and a lot of other cars decades ago when I was into cars, now they are something that takes me from one place to another ans pulls a trailer with a motorcycle in it so I don't have to wash it when I get where I am going. (the motorcycle)

You find that funny? Why do you find that funny?

Very credit points you made in the PM. The stratospheric maintenance costs are the reason my father never bought a Bentley. You can get 'em cheap, but they'll rape you bloody when you need any work done. Like even totally standard maintenance too I believe, right? An '03 with low mileage has gotta be pretty maintenance free for a few years at least though. Maybe fairly shortterm ownership on that one would be sensible.

My father had a '77 (I think) 308GTS that was very reasonable to buy, but guess how much it was for just 2 new shocks? $12,000. He ate that cost, but then he started losing power and the dealer estimate for the bottom end rebuild was half the purchase price of the car. Sold it w/o making the repair and got reamed on resale.

And why I believe that buying such a car new is silly. You know damned well that you are going to get it coming and going on the maintenance and repairs so what is the point of getting one brand new? New to me is more than adequate to make me happy. :)

We chuckle about our neighbor Bill in his spankin new red ferarri all the time. My husband could tell by the sound of the engine that he didn't know how to properly drive such a car - I haven't a clue, just goin by what the Old Grump said. Based on my experiences thus far with the old coot near 3 years now, I have zero reason to doubt him on this. Anyways, we saw him several times a week just cruising all over and then all of the sudden one day you never saw Bill in his pretty red ferarri EVER AGAIN. Why? My husband's theory is that he got his first "engine out service" (I think I am saying that right). Where they actually lift the engine out and replace belts, etc. I think the Grump said that this mandatory maintenance costs over 12K. Suddenly, I am thinkin that "the glamour" and "show factor" got old REAL QUICK.

My car is hardly a Ferarri but when the water pump had to be replaced recently the part cost MORE than what it cost for the craig's list fella to drive out to us to replace it in our office parking lot.

Yeah that's annually I believe. 12k every year or they void your warranty. My brother owned a '87 Testarossa for about 6 months and did the same thing as your neighbor. First service, he freaked and got rid of it. He could barely afford the payment anyway and the service broke the bank.

I know I told some guy that the first engine out service for my 355F1 was $5500 plus parts and he said " SHIT, I can buy a nice used car for that. Ok, then go ahead, I love 1989 hondas anyway.

Someone actually asked why I would buy a Clenet, amazing. they made a 250 of the Series I owned number 70. I can't remember what it cost but I think it was more than a few new Porsches.

The cars look similar they were both made with a chassis from a lincoln. The Clenet had a full running board a common error in both cars is they are mistaken for one another, except both have their names on the hoods.

The cars looked nothing like the Big 3 cars of the times. So they stood out. The EXCALIBUR LOOKED KINDA LIKE A KIT CAR

Wow, I can't think of a single car from 1981 that would be less appealing. Some things are rare for a reason, because the demand is extremely limited. They may hold their value within a small circle of dedicated admirers, but I think most people wouldn't be seen in one.

...Or is it that most people couldn't be seen in one?

*operative words being "most" and "couldn't".

As I said, I don't know Jack Schitt about cars so I am just hoping to gain some perspective.
