ok I need a computer geek here.

I don't even know why I clicked in here........I have no clue.
Typical female here....either plug it in, but batteries in, or gas in it....then ready to go.

sorry

so athlon being the Porsche right. :)

That is right. It is a 64 bit chip that runs faster than Pentium with less power. Has been kicking Intels ass for almost two years now. Intel has just now (this quarter) come out with their new processor that is equivelant to AMD's that is 2 yrs old.

depends. which athlon is it.

athlon beat out pentium 4 in numerous tests.
it says amd athlon xp thats all it says.lol

all I want to know is I am going to by guild wars nightfall and it says min req I need a p3.is my athlon going to be able to play that.

there is no model # for the athlon? there has to be.

is it a 2100, 2600, what?

i dont want to tell you one thing and have it not work. once you open up that packaging, you own the bitch.

Put the crack pipe down, son. Intel retook the desktop processor lead with the Core 2 Duo, which has been out since July or something. Please find me an article saying Athlon's outperform Core 2 Duos.

That's what we were looking for. It's like a high-end Pentium IV, or close enough. It's running around 2.5GHz, not too shabby.

I spend most of my time on an XP 2600+ running at 2.13GHz. It's Mrs. Digger's reject -- the hard drive crapped out and I rebuilt it. She's got my Athlon 64 now and doesn't want to give it back. :D

needto, i suggest anything besides those damn rpg style games...havent you seen southpark's world of warcraft?

According to AMD, its as fast as a 3000 mhz pentium 4 (by definition of how they labeled it)
Usually AMDs estimates are a tiny bit higher than they should be. so maybe itd be like a pentium 4 2800 or something.

but im sure it cost a lot less.

Thanks Dig and others..
I am not that bright when it comes to comps so I had no idea..
I think it is a great little computer for being a hp pavillion...My secondary comp is a gateway pentium III and it sucks. It is a few years older than my main comp, but it runs as though I have had it for years! lol
Cannot even add games on the secondary comp.

OH and this guy told me today that DL is good to have for the dvd burner because say if i was going to record my greys anatomy season 2 and it has 6 discs with 5 episodes in it each except the 6th one, if i was gonna record it for a friend, it would take alot of dvds but with the DL (double layer) It double layers or something and uses less dvds
yay

true, it does take less dvds.
BUT, double layer dvds cost a lot more. double layer dvds are typically $2 per dvd, while single layer dvds are about 20-33 cents per dvd.

so you'll save much more money using single layer for now, but it will use more dvds.

well i can see the single layer in a single movie but when im recording a series or something the dl would be best right?
and do i have to have a program for that or can it just do it? The guy gave me his business card and told me to email him and hed email me a site, but of course, i lost the card

soklu,

that guy is a homo and just wants you to contact him outside of his crappy job. i burned backups of all of my gf's grey's anatomy, since she brings them over people's houses to watch and doesnt want them scratched up.

i'll tell you how to do it.

secondly, that notebook is fine for what you will be doing on it...listening to music, burning dvd's/cd's, surfing the web, etc. you dont need some pimped out machine, like some of us do...because you will never need it.

um, if you want to record movies you'll have to download a program to do it. Like DVDshrink and Nero. (dvdshrink decrypts the dvd, nero burns it onto a disk). Nero isnt free, but if you hunt around you can find illegal copies of it on the internet, like on bittorrent sites.

It all depends on the disk, as to which type of dvd you should use. The vast majority of movies take up somewhere between 4-8 gigabytes. Single layer disks only hold 4 gb. Double layered ones hold 8 gb. Most movies are too big to fit on single layer, so if you want to preserve the full quality you need to burn to double layer disk, BUT programs like dvdshrink can make them fit on a smaller single layer disk.

The quality of the movie drops though if you shrink it to fit on a small disk. How much it drops depends on how much the movie needed to be shrunk to fit, and that varies depending on the original movie disk (quality of film, film length, extra features, etc)

Most tv show disks will take up a full double layer disc. So yeah, burning them onto double layer might make sense.
Cuz a 6 disk set for a tv season would take up 12 single layer discs, lol.

OR you can do what i do, and download the divx files for the episodes (which can be downloaded through bittorrent for free) and then I can fit ALL of the episodes onto 2 single layer disks or 1 double layer. Its nice :) (DIVX is a really efficient way to compress video to smaller file size, with minimal loss in quality, incase you didnt know).

read my post. it has some good insights :) if you need to know more details though, ask me or p0ink

dammit, they need to give me my own forum...

i will teach you (and everyone else on EF) the easiest, fool-proof way to backup your dvds.

Hey DT , it really depends. In desktop processing and in some graphics applications the top of the line Intel chips are faster, but in database processing , Dual Core Opteron boxes still well outperform any Intel processor
