Ok - I have a serious question

How does one raise ones self confidence/esteem? I suffer from low self confidence and it hurts me at my job. My job REQUIRES that I confront and many times argue with people, loud - obnoxious people most of the time. Here's the weird part, I don't fear the confrontation because of any physical issues, I know I can handle myself - but I fear the confrontation because I fear someone getting the better of me mentally. I am not a stupid man - or at least that what's people say - but when the shit hits the fan - I doubt myself constantly. I need to stop doubting myself, because I know the answer. This always happens to me:

So I am arguing and someone asks me a technical question. I draw a blank and then say, "I'll have to look into that." Which makes me look like I don't know my job. Then 10 minutes or so later on the drive back to the office, HA - The answer!!! I knew it! I just couldn't think of it when I needed to.

How do I change this? Is it even possible?

go see a therapist.. it could be worse, you could be homeless on a cold snowy night and sleeping outside.

Well - that's true - I could be. Are you saying I shouldn't try to improve at my job because I have one? I just wanted to see if anyone had any good ideas, or books I could read to help.

You should always be looking to improve yourself. Very competitive world we live in today. Honestly I would go see a therapist and try and talk through your issues.

Is this the career you wanted when you were at the playground at 10???

If so -- relax, be confident in yourself, just be yourself and stop over-analyzing it.

If not -- relax, be confident in yourself, just be yourself and start planning your next career where you WILL be happy and enjoying it.

I'd love to be a kindergarten teacher. I want something simple and fun vs this ungodly complex and exhausting life I lead now.

You can't write a message board post and boom - you're confident. I wish.

It comes from being comfortable in life in all areas. A major attitude shift. For that to happen requires you to change your view in life and start appreciating yourself. Easiest way to do that is read tons of books on the subject, hang out with positive confident people, remove negative insecure people from your life, improve your daily enviroinment and start removing drama and daily problems.

Remember: Confidence = Believing and liking yourself. It's not that hard.
