Oh Velvett.....

I just finished my oldest daughter's room for her birthday. She just turned 12 and she said she wanted her room painted since we haven't done anything to it since we made it it her nursery.(I'm so embarrassed!) She wants to invite friends over but has been ashamed that her room still looked like a nursery. Time has flown and she sure has grown up fast!:(

I wish I had made some before pictures but I guess you can use your imagination. The lower walls had wallpaper and then a dark mahogany stained chair railing and then a border above the railing. Crown molding was an off-white and so were the baseboards (wide baseboards).

I stripped all of the wallpaper and border off and had to do some light patching and sanding. Used stainkiller on the chair railing.

My wife found a design in I think a Southern Living type magazine. It called for pink upper walls, white chair railing and moldings, and a darker pink lower walls. (I call it my Pepto Bismol room)

Picked out some Benjamin Moore paint for that. Payed alot more for that paint but it is well worth it. Good stuff. The windows have plantation blinds and will have some type of valance when my wife finishes making them.

Took me four days total and I just finished it tonight.

Here are the pics......

The room behind her is a study room and I painted the walls the light pink and the ceiling the darker pink and the moldings white.(no pics of that room..sorry)

Her bed and bedspread.....some type of bug design I guess...didn't really pay much attention to that.

Her bed and nightstand (got to fix that handle on that nightstand)

She is very happy with it all and said she will have no problem inviting her friends over now.:D

Thanks. It was definately a labor of love.

I bought plantation blinds and installed them after the pics were made. My wife is making a valance to go across the top of the windows.

Looks like you did a good job.

On a side note don't know if I could do that as I can't stand pink, your a good Dad.

Cheers,

Glad she digs it. Looks like a lot of work.

I would have to blind myself with carbolic acid before walking in there... I hope you dont take this the wrong way, but that is the most frightening thing I have ever seen.

That much pink makes my sack crawl up into my abdomen.

I will say that it was extremely hard for me to actually paint that color but that is what she wanted for her birthday so I couldn't argue.

The colors are not that bad on the eyes. The pictures don't really do it justice. Some of the objects in the room are the exact same color as the lower walls but photography sometimes distorts that. The lamp and the pink back pillow (on the bed) and the lower walls are the same color but it doesn't look like it in the pictures.

I'm knew Mr. Pink would like the colors:D

PUBLIC STATEMENT: (erm.......for those who care ;) )

that lady is indeed madame audrey, who i have eyes for :rose:

now, back to topic, some window dressing would really make that room :)

You know it's funny, I had never been a pink person but pink has really grown on me.

I love what you have done with the room and from the picture it looks like your daughter approves too. :D

If you really want to go really bananas, I have a source (somewhere) that makes really fun knobs, pulls, etc for cabinets - you could update all the hardware on the furniture.

The woodworking is really nice as well and I love those kind of doors.

Of course being a guy, I never liked pink either but the more I look at it the more I like it. (Back in the early 80's I remember wearing a pink button down shirt and kelly green pants while dating...WTF was I thinking!)

The colors are really soft on the eyes and go really well together. Like I said, the windows have plantation blinds and my wife is making a valance to go over the top of the windows. Maybe when she gets that up, I'll take another picture.

The hardware update sounds pretty neat. I know my daughter would go for that! If you run across it and they have a website I could order off of, let me know.

I never would have expected my daughter wanting her room painted for a present for her birthday. She is growing up so fast.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention it but the first picture where she is standing, leaning in the doorway.....the inside facing of that doorway is where she has been measuring her height every couple of months for the last 12 years and she has been recording it in pencil on that part of the doorway. I just couldn't bring myself to paint over that. In about 10 years, I'll go in there and cry like baby, wondering where did the time go.:(
