Oh shit, I think I want to be a bodybuilder...

Silent Method

Those of you who don't know, I come from a sports background (other than bodybuilding), mainly wrestling. I've been an "amateur bodybuilder " for a while but never seriously thought about competing. I mean I've always wanted to be big, strong, and healthy, but not all of us want to compete.

Well, lately I've been thinking a lot about getting serious. I love competition but have no real outlet right now. I need something to strive for, something to push for harder then I've ever pushed myself before. I need a challenge! I need to set some goals for myself and I need to do it NOW before this feeling goes away!!

I need help from some of you guys who have competed. I know about as much about competing in a bodybuilding competition as I know about the game of cricket. Where do I start?

bump for SM...

go for it bro...

I would like to as well, but fear I don't have the genetics, and am not willing to take mass amounts of juice to make up for it.

Hey bro, you're best bet is to hope someone on the west coast sees this that competes or you may have to keep this bumped until tomorrow. Most competitors are probably asleep by now. Good luck bro!!

i think its a great thing to strive for. im just getting over the thinking that ill never have the physique to step on a stage. i mean look at guys like SAF or flexed1, but i think in a few years that i might want to give it a shot as well. i mean bodybuilding is something that really so few people do, and on top of that, the bodybuilders that have that directive focus and energy to actually compete just deserve the utmost respect. i say go for it bro and if you really want it anything is possible.

well bodybuilding is a cruel sport..it can leave you wanting to kill yourself if the judges dont like you. so first off you have to evaluate how you look. height and weight isnt the best way to tell but it is a good place to start along with bf. this is how you know if you will do good in a show...like i know you will want to do. so then you set a bulking goal for yourself...once you get close look at the npc calender in your area. then give yourself a good 12-16 weeks to prepare for the show. it is best if you find a traininer that knows what they are doing for the posing and contest diet. hope that helps...if you have any questions pm me cause my puter is gonna be down for a couple day because i am moving.

Ah yes....
the addrenalin rush as you await your turn,
the warm feeling as a 1000 pairs of eyes focus in on you,
the hours spent getting your technique right.....

.... English county cricket and professional bodybuilding, sister sports.

Thanks for the input. Right now, my plan is to learn how to implement your first piece of advice - self-evaluation. For me, a show is going to be quite a way off. I'm going to do everything in my power to ready myself for 2003, but if it takes a year on top of that, thats fine. My upper body is ok but I still have work to do. My my legs followed by my back need the most attention. Go figure. I feel I need to focus on what two funamentals - proportion and mass.
