Oats and Sweet Potatoes

Mavy said:
Boil or microwave your sweet potatoes, peel them when they are cooked. Mash them up with some skim Milk, a bit of honey, and cinnamon. Damn they are good! I would take this over oats any day of the week.

Isnt it easier bro to use a potatoe peeler prior to cooking?

If you are going to boil them .. then yes definately. If you are nuking them, then no, the skin keeps the heat inside and helps them cook easier, also dosent turn the outside into a stcky shell if you nuke em already peeled like I did before. They peel very easily after being nuked. Bioling though, defintaley take that skin off first and cut them up into chunks. Definately like to try the frys now.

Hmmm....just peel them with a knife when done? Do you weigh them first? I usually aim for 6oz pre-cooked and skinless........so, probably about 7 with the skin......

My fries come out soft. Havent figgured out a way to crisp them up without adding oils........

Thats what I figured would happen with the fries. Sweet potatoes are pretty moist. I like em much better than yams.

Ya, I cut em in half and peel em with a knife. As for serving I dont weigh them, I just serve as much to match my protien size so I can eat SPs and say steak together in every bite! lol. What I did this week is boil about 4 of them (peeled and shopped up) on Sunday. Then I mashed them up with the milk, cinnamon etc, and popped em in a container in the fridge. Now whenever I want some with a meal, just scoop some out, and nuke em. This way works better for me, as I dont have to cook a whole one each time. Side dishes of carbs are what kill me as far as time goes ... when time is always an issue with me. Ahh ... someday when I make my million I will have my own personal cook, and everything will be fresh, and ready when i want it. lol

Mine never get crunchy, no matter what.....I've learned to like the fries soft....

only way to get the fries crispy is to cut them into the thinnest shoestrings and fry them
i know for a fact that is the only way

now you may slice em thin and brush with oil lay out in a single layer and roast til crisp that that does include oil

I nuke the sweet pototes.. cut them into thick sections..-- glaze a little with olive oil and red pepper throw them on the george forman -- grill and after i use a little sea salt and low carb HEINZ ONLY ketchup... taste better than fries..

I read somewhere that if you cut them up and brush with egg whites and bake them, they will get crisp. Haven't tried that yet.

Cinammon works well on both.

Since I'm in college I have to use a microwave. Othersie for Sweet potatoes some cut them up and boil them others bake them with chicken or turkey.

Honey is good on both too.

I don't know why but plain oats in water have started to grow on me. My splenda/cinnamon use has slowly gone down and I have started to actually like the taste of plain oatmeal. If I need some sweetness I now use stevia extract.
