oatmeal vs. brown rice

110%

New member
ok, i cant eat oatmeal plain, i always have to put like 2 tbsp of brown sugar in it to make it taste good, this was fine all throughout my bulking diet, but im gonna do cutting soon and i know i cant afford this brown sugar every morning so what i am wondering is i already would be eating brown rice once a day but if i ate another cup for breakfast instead of oatmeal, is it just as good not counting the fiber of oatmeal, cuz i would be also eating al ot of broccoli each day so that should be enought fiber, or do i need to stick witht he oatmeal plain or maybe some protein powder?

They are both very good sources of complex carbs, when looking closely at the glycemic index of both they are relatively comparable, oatmeal is 49, and brown rice is 55. I don't think they are to different if you prefer one to the other. Brown rice does have less fiber though so you may not feel as full. Hope this helps!! Good luck!

Throw in a banana or a little honey...man your cutting but remember that first off its first in the morning and secondly you still have your workout to come.

Try this...

Take your favorite protein shake powder and sprinkle it on top. I use GNC's choc flavor on my oatmeal because it tastes the best that way in my opinion. If you're worried about the small amount of carbs (probably only like 3 carbs since you're not even using a whole scoop anyway), then try a zero carb protein powder. You won't be disapointed.

when I first started my clean diet, I literally gagged on oats.

I can honestly say that I am giddy getting up in the AM thinking about eating my oats.. :p

Could be a product of the fact that it is just about my ONLY source of carbs - but regardless, I now really enjoy it.

At first I put a cut up a banana in with a little bit of Splenda...then I put 1/2 a banana, then I eliminated the banana all together.

I also suggest you try putting a little less/more water in see how that does for you.

Damn..I'm a little long winded today...:)

Just eat both...the differences are negligible. Both are great for dieting. Oats are probably a little better from a health standpoint, but nothing to make a fuss about. Variety of foods helps most diets excell.

I prefer oatmeal to rice. I "feel better" (less carby) after eating oatmeal as opposed to rice, anyway. Try oatmeal with a little salt. I love it like that! (although I don't know if the salt addition is a good thing)

take both of them

they have # the same GI
but oat has a lower SI (satiety index)
