o/t Anyone do that eye surgery so u can see far again?

Contacts are getting too expensive and i just got an infection.. i dont like glasses, i feel dorky, paranoid when wearing them .. how much is this surgery so i can see far again without lenses.. How much $, Where to go? Does insurance cover any? Are there any problems with the surgery? i am almost 19, my left eye is -2.75, my right is -3.00.. sucks!!! should i get the surgery done now or wait till they get worse???? HELP ME SEE!!!

Eye surgery Q's in a AS forum.. LOL

OK, as some who's got it about 5yrs ago, I highly recommend it. It is just great not touch those damn glasses and contacts again. But you should see a doc first, because similar to AS use you might be too young for it :D I'm not an expert but your eyes could change when you're young and any early laser surgery would be useless. But listen to what your doc says and definetely do it if he/she says its OK.

Strech, i think you are correct with it being called lasik surgery... I have heard of alot of people gettin it done.. but i just need some info from people who had it done.. for those who have had it done, where u get it done, how much $, how well it work, how bad where ur eyes before, did insurance cover anything, how long to heal..???????? etc..

Got it done a few years ago,I highly reccomend it.I do construction and I was in work the day after. My benefits covered it all($3400).I can give you great doc in jersey if you decide to do it.I think the starting age is like 23 yrs old.

for real... what does o/t stand for?

off topic....

my g/f grand dad had the surgery done a few years back and it caused him to go partially blind in one eye, the other eye has perfect vision though. do your research, talk to the doctor that will be doing it, get reccomendations... most places that perform lasik welcome you to come in and see the procedure for yourself..

My friend had terrible vision (i.e. he could not read his digital night table clock from his bed without glasses/contacts) and he had Lasik surgery. One day later he had 20/20 vision. Cost him $5,500 and insurance paid for $2,000 or so I believe.

I plan on getting it done when my boss stops scumbagging me with my pay.

I had PRK done about a year and half ago. My vision wasn't that bad to start. I'm at 20/30 in my right, 20/40 in my left now.

The healing process is a lot longer with PRK than it is with LASIK. People get up out of the chair seeing 20/30 at least with LASIK. It was a month before I could get that with PRK just because of the nature of the procedure. The whole thing including pre-op tests, which were very expensive was just shy of $4500.00. Was it worth it? Totally... Your myopia doesn't sound to severe so you could be a great canidate for LASIK which is actually coming down in prices a lot lately. Check out at least three facilities and go with a facility that will let you watch them do a procedure.

Post op you can expect a lot of daily eye drop use, some mild "grainy" feeling, almost like sandpaper in your eye, and possible HALOS at night around lights. Nothing severe. That's for PRK or LASIK. There are some other nasties I had with PRK but you shouldn't have to deal with that because LASIK would be a better road for you.

Good luck!

I had it done, I now have almost perfect vision. I can SEE the alarm clock when i wake up in the morning!!!!!

I don't think they will do it until you are about 25 because your eyes haven't finished maturing yet.

Yeah, the price has gone down alot in the past 2 years. Where I'm at you can just walk into the mall (next to payless shoes) and get zapped for something between $1000 and $1500.
