It's a shame that people are so programmed to oppose personal choice with their retirement accounts. Social security is fucked and it needs a change. Not sure why people would want to stick with the current shitty plan.

good god. let me guess. you get all your info from FOXNEWS?

Because my dad got killed when I was 3 I got SS monthly until I was 19. That's probably the only SS I'll get....thus I save!

Well I heard the same thing coming out of presidents Clintons mouth and every politician in the late 90's. Everyone agreed that it needed changed, and now that the current pres is doing something about it its a lie, Fox news cover up. Just admit you hate the man. Then you don't have to give us your biased point of view because we will already know. I do think that there are some problems with this plan, however he is taking a step in the right direction to attempt to do something about it. Its just comical how your (and PW) hatred is controlling any rational thought. EVERYTHING this pres does is the worst thing to happen to our country. You libs need to think a little more positive, smile once in a while, try to enjoy life, believe me its not that bad.

Ha-Ha...You like Bush put can't intelligently defend his policies. So you do what all conservatives do when backed into a corner..attack somebody as being liberal, throw Clinton into the mix, etc....pathetic.

While at the same time the only way you folks can defend SS is by throwing emotional BS into it....

"What about these old disabled people, shouldnt they get money? What if that was your grandma!"

good god! , you are a mindless idiot who believes the current system will not collapse.

I love how people express an opinion and immediately people try to pigeon hole it as left or right. I am neither dickface.

Eliminate the wage cap and you have no issues with SSI ever.

Why would I... I will never collect it anyway. My personal investments are my retirement. Social Security is for serfs.

They were telling us 30 years ago that SS would be insolvent by now. It's not.

But I agree that any one who relies completely on SS for their retirement are stupid. ANY financial planner would tell you that a healthy retirement is built on 3 pillars.

1. Social Security
2. Personal Pension (IRA, 401Ks, etc)
3. Private investments (real estate)

That has ALWAYS been the case. Social Security exists to help those idiots who do no planning. In our society, we think it is wrong to let old people starve.

It is wrong to let old people starve when they paid for years into a system with the understanding they would have an income when they retired. They did not have the benefit of financial planners. They had a safety net created for them, it's not their fault. That said, the net needs to be removed for future generations. There is no excuse for someone under 50 to not be saving/investing for their retirement.

I don't believe the SS death knell that Bushie is selling but underneath all that, I agree with the premise of giving me all the money I'm paying into this system so I can do what I want with it.

Here were some of my favorate exerpts from that obviously slanted article:

That's not a trivial increase, but it's also not overwhelming; a tax increase big enough to cover that rise in spending would still leave overall taxation in the United States well below the average for other advanced countries.
See you lazy american fuckers? You guys aren't paying YOUR FAIR SHARE!!! Pony up some more dollars to the government -- I'm sure you have it to spare. Oh, and let me give you a little insight... when it's time to really raise money, the place to get it isn't the "super rich". Guess what? There aren't enough of them. Know who is pleantiful in numbers though? Yup, you guessed it -- the middle class. The people who work hard for a living and struggle to make ends meet.

Most don't realize it, but the middle class are the people who pay for these bright ideas. Do you think for a second that if the US government raised taxes on companies like General Electric that GE would simply go back to its shareholders and say "sorry guys, less earnings. We had to pay some extra taxes. I'm sure you understand"? Hell no... they'd say "We are actively clawing-back the temporary earnings setback brought-on by the tax increase. We will close this gap via price realization at every point of sale" (Translation: We're increasing prices everywhere). And you know who ultimately pays for those "price realizations"? Yup... working-class people.

Anyway.. /rant off. I'd be fine if we just pass a bill that says if Social Security ever does go bankrupt, we just treat it like any other institution and let it go under. Since the democrats tell you there is nothing to be concerned about, wouldn't it be a moot piece of legislation anyway?
