NYC Ebola

Did they just release the results??

I missed it. Been following all evening but love the show `How to get away with murder` so had to switch!

fgt doctor been in the subways, went bowling, living the big life spreading Ebola throughout NYC

So much for his limited direct contact with people. Interesting NYC has Bellevue as the designated hospital. Don't they have a huge psych wing?? Lol

NY is over crowded with 3rd world minorities anyway. It'll spread like wildfire and thin out the herd a little.

Obama is pissed at Abbott because Abbott wont send any aussies to help him and the AfriCom mission.

Who cares if he was on subways and stuff? Unless he was walking around vomiting on hand rails and bleeding on seats, nobody can contract Ebola that way.

On the train, I'd be more scared of minding the gap than Ebola.

He might have eaten a kebab.

If he sneezed or coughed into a hand rest and then some poor sould touches that hand rest and picks at his eye or later has lunch without washing his hands and licks his fingers... EBOLA

^It's a sad day when Nan is making sense

Sneezing and coughing are uncommon symptoms of Ebola, so that's not super likely.

For whatever matter he may have sneezed to be infectious, he would've had to sneeze/cough (unlikely, unless he had an allergy/cold on top of the ebola) while exhibiting ebola symptoms.

I'm thinking the chances he had allergies/cold that would've made him sneeze, on top of Ebola, all while exhibiting Ebola symptoms considering he's a doctor that's been treating ebola and knew to call himself in are preeeetty slim.

Only people with colds and allergies sneeze? that's news to me, even some asshole's nasty perfume can someone sneeze, drinking water and having it go down the wrong pipe makes you cough. Dry ass A/C makes me cough :(

Ok, let's go with he did sneeze or cough on the subway...

So? Ebola is damn near impossible to get the way you described, in fact there hasn't been one documented case of anyone catching it by touching a surface that way ever.

The CDC has even cited a study where surfaces, everything from bed rails to spit bowls, etc. in an active ebola ward were tested for the virus, and the evidence just isn't there.

The chance he was up and around before the onset of symptoms is slim to none, considering

a. he was taking his temperature twice a day since returning to the U.S.

and

b. studies show the ebola virus doesn't show up in saliva until/unless the virus has progressed significantly in you. You'd have to be incredibly sick for your saliva and such to be the issue, unlike feces, vomit, blood.

Meaning he could've done worse on that subway than cough, and all passengers would've been a-ok.

Yeah, highly unlikely this guy just had some explosive diarrhea and splatter painted ebola infested shit particles on his hands and then proceeded to touch everything right before he got on the subway.

You are easily amused.

Close contact is defined as

being within approximately 3 feet (1 meter) of an EVD patient or within the patient’s room or care area for a prolonged period of time (e.g., health care personnel, household members) while not wearing recommended personal protective equipment (i.e., standard, droplet, and contact precautions; see Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations); or

having direct brief contact (e.g., shaking hands) with an EVD patient while not wearing recommended personal protective equipment.

Those are safety precautions for close quarters - not studies of how you can contract ebola, and the virus doesn't live on surfaces.

Can you catch Ebola from sitting on the shitter after disease-ridden West African sprayed diarrhea all over it?

Remember this is a newer version of Ebola...with "added function". The goal of the research is to take functions of the common cold (the way it is transmitted) and add it to the more deadly virus. Effectively weaponizing it.

Perhaps Ebola could be effectively used in a crowded subway tunnel in the same way Aum Shinrikyo unleashed Sarin on pigs in Tokyo.

I find it very amusing that anybody actually gives a shit about Ebola. It's not a plague or an epidemic. There's a handful of cases, wile people are dying of flu daily.

O'rly?

Ebola on dry surfaces, such as doorknobs and countertops, can survive for several hours; however, virus in body fluids (such as blood) can survive up to several days at room temperature.

One study found that Ebola that has dried onto glass, rubber or painted aluminum can survive in the dark for several hours in relatively average conditions, defined as an environment with 30 to 40 percent humidity that is between 20 degrees and 25 degrees Celsius (68 degrees and 77 degrees Fahrenheit.)

And yet, they couldn't find it on the door knobs, spit bowls, etc. of an active Ebola clinic.

And I never said it was impossible, I said it was extremely unlikely - especially considering there's never been a proven case of anyone contracting through touching a surface.

Even the man who discovered Ebola said he'd have no problem riding a subway, etc.

It's a moot point though, because the doctor in NYC wasn't riding the subway with symptoms, meaning everyone is perfectly safe regardless of what you want to believe.

All I know is all this ebola shit still ain't enough to stop me from going to NYC! I already have scarves and thermal clothing. This shit is hapenning damn it!

The NBC cameraman had no "direct" contact with any infected people as you would describe it, and still caught the virus. He cleaned a vehicle and was "somewhat" around people that were sick by filming them.

There's never been a case of anyone infected by touching a surface? Yes there has.

Ebola is classified as a category A agent. Category A agents are the most dangerous microbes and toxins; these include anthrax, smallpox, plague, botulism, tularemia, and hemorrhagic fevers caused by viruses such as Ebola. These agents were given the highest priority because they a) are relatively easily disseminated or transmitted from person to person; b) result in high mortality rates with the potential for major public health impact; c) would likely cause significant social disruption; and d) require special action for public health preparedness. They handle it that way because you can catch it that way, although it seems more likely that someone who is very very sick is the most contagious, they don't know how contagious someone is at any given time. Who are you going to listen to, people who are saying now that it is hard to get but who previously testified in front of congress that it is very easy to catch?

So basically what i'm trying to say is...you're fucking retarded.
