NY Times is a joke!

So i am reading the NY Times this morning when i read this article about this old lady who is living on 678 dollars a month. And the article is supposed to make everyone with money feel bad for those who do not have money. It tells a very sad story of someone who lost her husband and wasn't left that much because of poor planning and a bad economy.

So the story goes on to list the things she pays for per month. On the list was $125 dollars a month for telephone and cable service!! HUH? She is impoverished and gets only 678 a month and she is spending money on cable??? Since when is the travel channel and necessity? Dont you think she should be spending her money a little wiser? The funniest thing is that the author of the article writes this as if it is totally normal. I dont know about you guys, but if i ever hit hard times i won't be foregoing dinner for cable.

Well I havent read the article but I think that may old folks have it pretty tough just to make it thru the days thru loneliness , anything that can kill a few hours is welcome and a neccessity of sorts.

i suggest they visit their local library instead of shelling out more than $100 a month for premium cable.

they didn't save during their youth. actions have consequences.

agreed, there is plenty of crap on basic TV and there are p lenty of free books to read at the library. My grandparents dont even know that most of the channels they pay for actually exist.
