the NPR employee was fired because he told Bill O'reily that he felt nervous riding in a plane with tradtionally dressed muslims.
that's all he said, nothing more.
seems pretty minor, but apparently it doesn't toe the NPR liberal thinking.

National Public Radio terminated the contract of commentator Juan Williams after he said on Fox's "The O'Reilly Factor" that people wearing Muslim garb on airplanes made him "worried" and "nervous."

The move was first reported Wednesday on Twitter by NPR's media correspondent David Folkenflik, who said Williams' remarks "were inconsistent with our editorial standards."

Williams was discussing political correctness Monday with host Bill O'Reilly and said that it could "lead to some kind of paralysis, where you don't address reality."

"I mean, look, Bill, I'm not a bigot," said Williams, who is African American and has written extensively on the civil rights movement and race in America. "You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."

NPR's action against Williams comes a few weeks after CNN fired newscaster Rick Sanchez after he called "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart a bigot and suggested that Comedy Central and other networks were run by Jews.

I bet if he had said something similiar about whites, christians, or jews it woudln't even be newsworthy, let alone get fired.
Sad day, I liked all things considered and i even contributed money back in MI.
not anymore, george soros can handle that

Now he can take his rightful place next to darth OReilly and rule teh galaxy as father and son!!!!111

He is black. The NAACP will be all over this.

NOT. The NAACP will throw his ass under the bus IMO. If he made the comment about Jooose he would have gotten a promotion, or selected by Obama to be the foreign rep to Israel. Damn Jooose.

yep, Juan is too moderate to get NAACP support, they view him as a uncle tom if you search around online you can see for yourself

That guy said nothing wrong. Total bullshit. Let's get the people who fired him on a flight with these guys and test their heart rate.

i'm guessing you don't listen to all things considered or watch Juan on Fox.
he's pretty moderate, and not a black extremist "everybody is racist!!@#" sorta person.
the left has cannibliazed (sp) one of their own and driven him into the arms of Fox news, which he just signed a lucrative deal with.
and further fuking NPR is the fact that this has taken place during fund raiser season...

that would be correct :o

that's really too bad then

Ya, Juan has made a lot of sense when I have heard him speak before.

lol my mom used to always be listening to it when she picked me up from elementary school. all i remember is "blah blah blah and i'm robert seagull"

fuking crazy man, that's what got me into it.
my dad driving me to school, always had that on... i hated it as a kid.
brings back fond memories of my pops and my childhood

I disagree with 90% of what Juan says, but I don't change the channel when I see him.

It's the difference between a conservative and a libtard. Libtards don't want disagreement with their world view aired.

You know, like someone who would post a signature saying: "Turn off Fox News"...

:fireworks:

The firing is a little sketchy. However, I like NPR because they report the news instead of giving their opinions about it. Fox news is much more like Oprah than the news. I can make my own decisions. Just the facts please!

NPR wants it's reporters to report news, not be the news.

You're crazy in the head brolly. Have you actually listened to NPR before? Try watching PBS news hour. I think that you've been so brainwashed by the redneck media, neutral journalism sounds like a lib slat to you.

that is were you are wrong, 32 yrs old been listening to NPR since i was a youth (liberal parent teachers).
ATC was my program, and i dig Diane Rheem.
Also i've been a contributer during fundraiser season, got the shirt and coffee mug to prove it.
lol @ natural journalism, pretty commonly understood what political spectrum NPR reports from.
i've noticed those that scream racism/brainwashing the loudest are typically the ones with issues

The people who scare me are the ones who can't tell the difference. PBS has been liberally slanted for a long time. It would be like trying to claim Fox News is perfectly balanced.

If a white NPR employee had gone on Fox and said "When I'm standing in line at the convenience store and there's a black man with gold teeth wearing a wife beater behind me, I get nervous", they'd be fired too.

It was a stupid, bigoted thing to say.

So why didn't PBS crack-down on Nina Totenberg when she said Jessie Helms (or one of his grandchildren) should get AIDS from a transfusion if there is "retributive justice" in the world?

I bet if a Fox reporter has said that about some libtard, they'd be sent packing.

Wow, she said that? That's awful, and fully deserving of a major slap or even dismissal.

As for Williams, I am under the impression that this wasn't his first strike.

What were his prior infractions. In this age of YouTube, somebody should have a montage of his transgressions out there. It took seconds to find video on the Totenburg/AIDS comments.

I disagree with at least 75% of what Juan says, but it never stops me from watching him.

Every media outlet has its biases and slants and the sooner everyone recognizes that the sooner people will stop wondering WTF happened when something like this happens.

if you were walking down a dark sidewalk at night and the said dude with gold teeth was following you, would you be nervous?
i'll answer and say that you would be.

and he shouldn't be, would be a perfectly legit thing
to say imo.

I like how the VP that fired him said he should have kept his comments between him and his psychiatrist. She and the NPR are gonna be sued 8 ways from Sunday. He is black, she is white and he was exercising his first amendment rights.

He was told that he couldn't announce his NPR status when appearing on Fox. Mara Liason was also attacked...I'm a Sunday morning pundit show fan and I've watched her and Juan since the late 1990's on Fox News Sunday...a pundit show. Speaking as someone with some legal training...you can't allow someone to violate your employment contract and not consider it waived when you put up with it weekly for almost ten years.

I've also watched other PBS/NPR contributors on the morning shows take partisan political positions. I remember Gwen Ifill taking a strong Obama care position on "Meet the Press."

Personally, the subsidizing of PBS and NPR is unwarranted in this new media age.

Trust no news agency that receives funding from the gov't!

How many of the 9/11 hijackers were wearing full Muslim garb?

The other day some Muslim dudes in full Muslim drag (Burka) attacked coalition forces.

That being said, a hijacker is probably going to go out of his way to appear non-Muslim but feelings/emotions aren't generally rational; Even though the underwear bomber used his real Muslim name and they still didn't catch it on the no fly list because it was misspelled. It's isn't that hard to create a database query that return "like" results.

And exactly how does that have anything to do with anything?

Williams said that air passengers in Muslim garb made him nervious, but if the hijackers don't dress that way it's a pretty irrational fear.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Watch what he said. He preferenced his remarks by saying something against bigotry, made it clear that the airplane issue was a personal fear, then stated we are not at war with Islam.

Let's take juan's scenario farther: Mid-flight the Muslim-garbed guy starts chanting "god is great", makes references to his 72 virgins waiting and says every westerner on the plane will soon feel God's wrath. Are you going to become a bigot too?

I read an article by Kokie Roberts insinuating Glenn Beck is just as evil as a Taliban/Al Queda operative; I expect her firing in the next few days for violating the NPR news code. :)

It doesn't take a funny native costume to make that scenario scary.

It doesn't take a funny native costume to make that scenario scary.

So you're a bigot too, you're just driven by different factors.

Every religion praises their own god and promises some form of eternal benefit, and many (if not most) describe some form of retributive justice against those outside their religion.
