You're ready to play.....
Bumper Stumpers made its debut on June 29, 1987 over the USA cable network. The show was a joint venture of Barry-Enright Productions and Wink Martindale Enterprises, Inc.; it was the second game show Wink created (the first being Headline Chasers in 1985). BS was taped at the Global Television Studios in Toronto, Canada, and was hosted by Al DuBois, a popular Toronto TV personality. (He called BS "the show that turns a highway hobby into challenging fun for you, and some ready cash for our players.")
Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the driving force of Bumper Stumpers (and Toronto's answer to Bert Convy).....Al DuBois!
Ready to play? Then let's get this show on the road!
BS was played by two teams of two contestants (married couples, siblings, friends, co-workers, etc.), who competed by trying to figure out the meanings of personalized licence plates. The teams tried to guess the 'Super Stumper' whose seven spaces were revealed one at a time. To earn the right to guess the 'Super Stumper', the teams had to be first to correctly answer a 'Jump-In' plate, which consisted of one of two licence plates that pertained to something. For example, which one of two plates belonged to Pebbles Flintstone: LITL KD or DAD FRD. (The correct answer is plate #2, meaning Daddy Fred.) The game continued until either team solved the 'Super Stumper', thus winning the game and $500.
Which of these two plates belongs to a thirsty athlete? (the one on the right, G8RAD, which means, 'Gatorade.')

This 'Super Stumper' is a plate that belongs to a pilot. And the first letter is an 'O'.

This team may have it. "Is it 'Oh to be flying'?"

Whichever team won two games out of three won the match and went on to the bonus round.
