noob question

so im trying to bulk up a little and have some ?'s

few questions:
1. should i workout daily on same muscle group or alternate like the 5x5 i believe i read here somewhere. Is it bad if i work arms everyday even if every other day is hardwork out then basic workout

2. i hear alot of cardio doesnt help in size gain (im trying to go from 6'4 185lbs -> 200lbs), but i play basketball often, im the everyday athletic guy. What will i need todo to negate this if its true

3. Even though i dont workout at the gym anymore (i plan on going back) i still do my nightly pushups, situps, and curls etc the basic home workout. Is this a bad thing todo nightly? should i have rest days inbetween

Summary, im trying to bulk up to 200lbs and add muscle to that. I have started to increase food comsuption from what i have read here and just getting myself mentally prepared before i start. just wanted to get some advice from the experts so i dont do anything wrong

you have said nothing about your diet. how much do you eat? eating is the key to gaining weight. also... how are you gonna "bulk up" without working out? push-ups, sit-ups, and curls just aren't gonna cut it.

right now im starting to work on 2500/100 diet. I plan on going to the gym I just wanted advice on workout schedules and rest periods. I have read about the popular workout routines and plan on trying them. Im not saying im not going to the gym i just meant i havent start going back yet

thx

1. Never work the same muscle back-to-back days. Your muscles grow outside the gym, not inside. If you train a muscle too often, you won't give it any chance to recover and grow. A simple routine like 5x5 would be good for someone just starting out.

2. Never eliminate all cardio. BUT if you want to put on as much weight as possible, you should limit the cardio to 1-2 times a week. Basically it comes to this: you grow by eating calories over maintanence. When you do cardio, you're burning calories. So you can either limit the cardio or eat more.

3. Get in a gym.

I wouldn't start upping the cals until you actually get into a gym. When you liftm your body creates a demand, and that demand is met by eating. Right now, you're not creating a demand but still eating extra calories. That will lead to fat gains.

The best advice anyone will ever give you is to stay consistent. Don't half-ass anything. Plan out a routine on paper and STICK TO IT. Also write down what you plan on eating everyday, post it on the diet board, and have those fools help you out.
