With a "request" like that, how can we not answer. You need to work on your salespitch, Sir ;)

Anyway, for me the answer is simple, the platinum deal does not offer anything of value to me.
Granted I have considered it, on more than one occasion, but everytime the conclusion is the same. It's not worth it.
Furthermore, it's almost kind of a principle. Like most people here, I'm a member on a few other similar messageboards, but this is the only one that wants me to pay for their services.

Granted, by becoming platinum, you get access to quite alot of added perks, like browsing the galleries, the search function and those bomb things.

Paying to watch pictures of beautiful people is redundant on the Internet. Although, from what I've seen, there are quite a few pictures on this site that probably is worth their weight in gold. But my logic tells me that the owner of these pictures are the individual members, and not the site of Elitefitness, so therefore I would rather pay the members.

Regarding the search function, I think it's sad that this suddenly went from a free service to a platinum service. The fact that you have to pay to search for a post made by other members, strikes me as odd.

The ability to bomb someone is not of value to me. I do also live in a land of the free, and I believe in free speach. Blacking someone out because he or she happens to disagree with me, is not practising free speech.

Of course it's all in good fun, and I can see the value of a few good bombs, when trolls, spammers and sourceposters is surfacing. But the way the bomb feature is being used today is getting a bit old, IMO.

Another logical argument that is used, is supporting the site. But for me this sound more like an argument used for nonprofit and charitable organisations, and not for a corporation that is probably/hopefully making a healthy profit already.

For me, the true value of this fitnessboard are its members. Members with a vast amount of knowledge and experience. Members with a comical talent that rivals professional comedians. Going platinum is almost like paying someone for someone elses services. Without the members, paying or non paying this site wouldn't exist. Perhaps EF should pay the members for their services, and not the other way around :p
For instance, the threadstarter has 25000+ quality posts. 25000+ posts, anyway ;) and is one among many valued contributors to this board, so why should someone else get paid for his contribution?

Of course, I understand that running a site of this magnitude is not cheap. But that's where advertising and sponsorships comes into play. It seems to me that everything is being sponsored here, and ads are all over the place. This probably brings in a good amount of money, which is a good thing, and hopefully this is sufficient to keep this boat floating, and then some. If not, perhaps something can be done to rectify this.

Last week I had the pleasure of experiencing the plat features, and I have to admin I was checking out some of the pictures posted. But part from that, I don't think I noticed much difference.

I've been a member here for 2 years, and only has a few hundred posts. Perhaps if I participated more, I would see differently.

I’ll take questions now  :)

These are all very good points, and I wish advertising would pay for everything. Unfortunately, it does not. Not here or anywhere else. Witness the many sites that have to charge for content now.

Of course the site would not be what it is without our members, but by virtue of the fact that we have so many members, we have larger costs than other bodybuilding sites.

The two largest factors that make Elite costly to run are the number of members and the size of the database. We could delete posts from the past 9 years, but we chose to maintain the database, because this is the largest body of fitness, bodybuilding, and steroid information that has ever existed. I think it would be a shame to lose that.

Online businesses are taking a mad scramble to find other means to increase revenues. Yahoo is now charging an annual listing fee. NetZero, a free Internet provider, has reduced its free offering to 40 hours and introduced paid subscriptions. Bizland now charges for Web hosting it used to provide for free to small businesses. Salon.com, the online magazine, will now carry fee-based premium content. And Wall Street Journal has always charged.

The low ad rates and poor affiliate returns are what have forced Elite and other sites to look for other sources of revenue. The state of running a free site only to earn $1 for every 1,000-banner impression per month can only last so long. With the current slump in ad market rates, a site generating 100,000 page views a month can only expect to earn $100 - an amount that is not even enough to cover dedicated server fees.

The other bodybuilding sites have come and gone since we got started 10 years ago. We made the decision that we would have tons for free and even more for our paying members. This will ensure that we will be around for the next 10 years as well.

Of course, many of the other "free" boards, exist to generate leads for steroid dealers who are involved with the running of them. That's a whole other story and something we do not take part in.
