To start I will list some of my favorite quotes:
No pain no gain- popular gym quote
Pain is temporary pride is forever- in my highschool weightroom
Pain is just weakness leaving the body- not sure where this one is from
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger- Neitsche
Weakness is just the fear of success- Scotsman
All we have to fear is fear itself- Winston Churchill
Ok to get into the meat of my point now. No pain no gain simply means that nothing in life worth attaining is going to be easy. When lifting yes pain and soreness are a side effect of the effort put forth. By pain that's a muscular soreness not actual injury pain like in a joint. To link together all the aforementioned quotes.
Without pain you will see no gains. The pain won't last forever but the pride in your accomplishments will. The more pain you put your body through the stronger you will become. A little soreness and pain isn't the end of the world but yet a new beggining. People who are afraid to do something because of the pain that might come with it will never succeed at much of anything. Fearing the pain is the only true limit you can put on yourself.
So sum up my little rant here. Yes lifting brings with it a certain amount of pain and suffering. I ask is it worth it to go through this pain to reap the benefits from what you have done? The pride that goes along with doing something to yourself that others denounce and at worst call masochistic is an immeasurable commodity. At this point in my road to training I actually like the pain brought by a great days effort, because in the end that effort will make me that much better. If people want to call me crazy or a masochist then so be it. I am addicted to the triumph and glory that can only be brought around by the awareness of your body in pain. Nothing matches the nearly godlike feeling of completing goals you once thought impossible. So my point is this: Yes it is going to hurt, yes it may hurt for a while, but when the screaming is done I will be left standing with my pride and my indestructable will.
Cheers,
