I know this isnt the correct forum but the guys I need to hear from dont frequent the other boards.. Here's my deal.

Im about 6'1 215lbs always under 10% BF. I look good.. Eat right, Train smart. Use my gear sparingly. My question is... I cannot stomach protein shakes. My buddie is a general manager of LA Fitness so i have tried absolutely everything out there. I just cant do it. Right now I consume about 6-7 whole food meals per day. Clean carbs, EFA fats about 30-60 grams of protein per meal. My only shake is my post workout shake. I drink a gatoraid with some additional dextrose mixed in and about 50mg of a RTD whey drink.. Usually an isopure or a "clear" shake. My stomach cant handle that nsty chocolate crap.. Am I losing any gains by eating whole foods rather than MRP's and SHakes?

Nope, shakes aren't a necessity at all, just an addition. make sure you are keeping your diet in check and eating good foods and you'll be fine :)

what is your daily caloric macro breakdown? in grams please.

You could have a problem digesting whey. I had a problem years ago, but now I can digest it no problem.

You might be a little better off with whole food over a shake. It won't hurt you. I would keep trying different brands and different types of protein shakes. Try mixing Swiss Miss or Nestle low-carb cocoa with choc flavored shakes. Have you tried San's Pro-Fusion? Choc Peanut fuckin rocks, without adding anything to it.

My meal break downs are give or take something like this...

5-6 whole eggs
whole wheat toast with some PB

6-8 oz turkey sandwhich on whole wheat bread
Fat free chese
tiny bit of mayo of add some flavor

8-10 oz chicken breast
1-2 cups of brown rice or reduced card pasta

workout....

gateraid throughout workout as well as a second bottle with dextrose right before my RTD protein shake around 50g protein

1.5 hours later
steak -10-12 oz sometimes with a twice baked potatoe.

maybe some cottage cheese before bed..

This for me.. Keep me lean and holds me around 215 under 10% without too much cardio.2x pre week.

I am young though 25...

anyways, i dont usually count out everything I pretty much know what's in what...

The ony two proteins I can handle are Nectar (the lemonaid) the cans of 50g RTD and sometimes pure protein grape.. I just hate the aftertaste and it makes my stomach so upset sometimes i cant finish my 2nd post workout meal.

I've been having digestive problems lately too. I think it's that gallon of 1/2% milk I've been chugging every day finally catching up with me. I actually threw up while trying to force down cottage cheese before bed last night, and it wasn't because I'm sick with anything. My stomach just can't take it anymore. Milk was kind of my cheapo version of a protein shake, and now I'm gonna have to start replacing it with other stuff.

I would try some different brands. Even among whey proteins, I find some are far easier to digest than others. Also I find at over 40g in one sitting, I get an uncomfortable stomach. So I just break them up into smaller more frequent drinks instead of trying to drink a massive shake.

I like Champion Nutrition Pure Whey. That one doesn't bother my stomach, and it tastes surprisingly good (especially the Banana Scream)

I would eat whole food proteins for EVERY MEAL (except post workout) if I could bro. It just doesn't work with my schedule. I think you're better off than guys who drink shakes for 90% of their protein.

yeah ur better off taking as few shakes as possible... I try to keep it at one a day without including post workout. The more u can eat whole foods, the better.

That's all you need, big man. Shakes are not necessary.

rtd cans are not worth the money. buy muscle milk and a potent protein blend. mix the two together. powder form is a much better buy. caned concentrate takes too long to enter through your system. better yet add a meal replacement in with it as well. all three. 1 serving of meal replacement, 1/2 of muscle milk, 1/2 of protein blendalong with a 1/2 cup of oatmeal all blended. for post workout shake.

Blah protein shakes are a waste of hard earned money. Why spend the cash when you can buy a can of Tuna for $1.50? It's real food, REAL protein. Just throw some chunky blue cheese dressing on it and down it after a workout. 50g protein.

IMO protein shakes are in fact a necessity you just have to find which one works for you and in my opinion optimium (55g) is great it is a egg blend and very easy to digest if u use water instead of milk.

your all set bro.

Our digestive systems are meant to breakdown whole foods anyway... not liquid foods. You will burn more calories through the day eating a ton of whole food frequently as well... so if you want to gain and are not, add a few meals.

keep like RADAR and your good: :RADAR lol, eat on brother

thanks for the replys guys.. I know my food intake is fairly on track but I just ATE protein powders. I can stomach one for my PWO shake because i have to. But other than that I wouldmuch rather chow on some burgers than a glass of calorie countdown milk and whey or even worse water and whey... I really appreciate it.

Hey JA...
Just like most of the other guys have said... if you can do without the protein shakes, you don't really need 'em... whole foods is always a way better (and healthier) choice for calories and nutrients... protein shakes should be used to supplemement whole foods when not taking in enough calories... I have 2 or 3 shakes a day only because I can't always get my hands on food, but my main meals and even some snacks are all whole foods... check out www.proteinfactory.com - they have some good varieties of protein, the tastes/flavors are very mild, you can choose the sweetner... only drawback is that they are a little pricey
