No coffee on lo carb diets??

What is the truth to this? I have been doing a lower carb diet but drink ALOT of coffee throughout the day (keeps me up for work and suppress appetite). Talked to some girl who's following Atkins and she said you cannot drink any coffee on a low carb diet. I can't understand this, how is coffee bad on this type of diet? Please tell me I can still drink it!! Thanks

I dont see why not, i mean usually people will take an eca or something along with there diets regardless of what type of diet that is - so drinking coffee should be fine. It is a diaretic, but most of the people I know drink it and Im on a low carb diet as well but have coffee every morning after breakfast

but that means you can't have the hazelnut creamer that you love...arrrrgggghhh, what's the point!

Searching for any permutation ...

I've noticed that you seem to really know your shit Ceebs.
Do you have training in a related field - biology or medicine?

she probably said that because of the sugar in coffee. if you drink straight black coffee you are fine. you can add splenda to make it sweeter. and if you are on a keto, you can add heavy whipping cream

Straightup black coffee is just fine. Now that its getting warmer, i'm hooked on sugar free redbulls. 10 calories, 3g carbs, 0 sugar. :p :p

Coffee and diet pepsi/coke keeps me sane.... Especially the diet pop... drool.... I havnt even had one today...
that explains my eye ball twitching!

Mmmm Hazelnut creamer... I think i could drink that straight out of the box...
How do you think it would make my urine smell nonerz?? lol

Thanks, Bullit. It's my pleasure to help. :)

Apart from some very basic excercise physiology classes I took a few years ago to help with getting a PT certification, I'm totally self-taught. It's amazing how much you can learn by reading books, and message boards like these. I also tutor anatomy and physiology (among other subjects) at a private high school, which helps with recall of the finer points.

btw: but what's the use. what's coffee w/o sugar and cream. ugh.
Drinking something that leaves such a vile taste in your mouth, that you have no choice but to lose your appetite?

Thanks everyone. She said it says it in her "Dr. Atkins" book she is following, maybe it means a real coffee with sugar and such. I drink it black anyway, I didn't think it was a problem. thank god, I drink about 12 cups a day of it black so this helps, I am not on a strict Keto diet, just trying to keep my carbs under 100 a day, I am always on the road for work so I can't follow a strict keto diet. Thanks for all the replies and im gonna print out that thread.

Check out my location

....And I hit ketosis everytime. Since it's CKD, I do heavy cream and equal or splenda. So for plain low carb diets it's gotta be ok. I would have to change diets if it wasn't!

(alot of regular creamer has 1g fat and no/low carbs as well.)

Dude, if you're only taking in 400 cals of carbs a day, you might as well go Keto (typically under 100 cals) You're still not getting a carb satisfaction with 400 calories and the fat burning will increase very much. Preparation is the key to a ketosis diet with a busy lifestyle.

Depending on how the carbs are timed during the day, the fat burning could be just about identical.
And I'm drinking coffee right now on a CKD. So drink up.
