Night Shift Workouts

So I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems with their training while doing nightshift?

I'm currently working sunday to thursday 10pm to 6am and I'm finding that my energy levels are a lot lower then they used to be on a normal schedule.

has anyone had problems progressing while doing nightshift?

any info or comments to do with this subject is appreciated.

one more question. I JUST started doing the intermediate version of the 5x5 today and I was wondering if I should just wait for my copy of "practical programming" to come and do one of the workouts in there?

corey.

cant really help you with your first question regarding the night shifts. but I think that the body takes at least a few weeks until it finds its groove. if you just started with the night shifts this might be an answer.

I would stick with the intermediate version until u need to change things up after hitting plateaus or so.

I always work 11pm to 7am. I go to sleep soon as I get home and find that I do better lifting when I wake up in the afternoons. Some people say these shifts really bother them but for me it is all about getting your body use to a schedule and sticking with it. I have done just fine in progress while doing this. I would go ahead and get some practice while you wait on the book cause if you are like most people you are not going to get it exactly right the first time or two anyway (I know I didn't) :)

You'll be fine corey... just plan your diet accordingly, allow for your sleep pattern to settle in, and you'll make gains.

Did you order starting strength? I highly recommend if if you haven't gotten it. PP is also amazing, but a little advanced. Run through the intermediate 5x5 a couple times and read PP more than once (you'll need to.. it's not a super smooth read like SS is) and then u might be ready to utilize that information better.

i work from 930pm-3am and have found that working out as soon as i wake up (1-2pm) is better. i am not sure if it has been the time switch or the job (physically demanding) but afternoons work. also, you don't have to deal with peak times! i dread finding parking, finding an available bench, and all of that bullshit. fuck evening workouts. early afternoon ftw.
