I am new here and my wife and I have joined a gym to get weight off.
We are trying to eat right too.
Can anyone tell me the right way to go?
I am 61 years old and have nothing wrong with me but being fat.

Well, the most important thing for someone in your shoes is diet. I don't know what your current diet looks like, but now is the time to commit 100% to cleaning it up. When you're younger, you can get away with a lot more, but at your age, it's not the time to spin your wheels. Beyond the impact on your appearance, it becomes very important for general health.

Regarding exercises, it wouldn't be appropriate to recommend specific modalities without knowing more about you, but for obvious reasons, you'd want to keep things pretty low impact.

It's hard to give you advice based only on what you said, but there are some basic guidelines to follow at any age. You and your wife can't really go wrong with eating lean cuts of read meat, skinless poultry, eggs, salmon, codfish, sardines, vegetables, low fat dairy, oatmeal, potatoes, brown rice, some nuts too. Avoiding processed foods would be nice and getting a quality multivitamic it's a valid choice too.

Also you shouldn't be to hard on yourself, by that I mean no dramatic changes take it slowly and enjoy yourself while at it.

Good luck.

Oh and right way to go it's on the diet forum :)
