I HAVE to work on adding some more muscle. I plan to compete in an NPC Figure Comp in March/April 2004 and need to focus on building up my upper body a little more. Myl ower body is muscular enough, just need to maintain that and keep it hard.

Problem is, I am WAY too dependent on cardio. I've been doing cardio 5-6x/week for 45min a day. Even though I know better and logically I know it is catabolic, I am a bit scared of what will happen when I cut back on cardio. I worry I will gain a ton of BF. Irrational, I know, but nevertheless, I am nervous.

So I need some reassurance, encouragement and other ideas & thoughts about my plan here....

For the next 4 weeks, this is what I plan on doing:

HIIT 3x/week for 30 min (treadmill or StepMill)

Weights 3x week (Ba/Bi, Ch/Sh/Tri, Legs) I toy with the idea of aadding a possible 4th weights day, spent on lagging body parts, probably Ba and Sh mostly...thoughts on that?

So what do you think? Any ideas? All feedback welcome....
 
I use that exact 3 day split a lot, and when I add a fourth day it's usually for just shoulders but that's me. Just watch your volume if you're hitting things 2x/wk. Good luck on the upcoming competition.
 
Thanks. I hesitate adding the 4th day, but my back needs a lot of help. Maybe I should just try hitting back day more intensely, rather than more days.

You MIGHT think about having a hard and intense day for back then another (say after doing another body part) for just bringing up your weaknesses on your back with a few higher rep sets (high rep for me is 10-20) with little rest.
