New to DC, what are the hot spots?

I spent a semester in DC....Anyway,

Bars: Third Edition
Tony & Joes
Champs

Clubs: Zei Club
Platinum
Seven
1223

DC..is OK, not great just OK>...people tink they are big time when they are not

Platinum is cool...but swanky....10 -15 dollar cover and drinks are 7 bucks. It is a cool place with lot of chickies.

I like the State of the union on U street. U street used to be a hard core part of DC but over the last few years has been gentrified. State of the union has really cool edgy bands that play fri and sat till 11:30. The bands are jazz, funk, R&B, regae. During the bands the crowd is 50% white, 50% black....a really cool diverse crowd. After 11:30 a dj spins mostly old school hip hop in the front and house in the back The crowd turns mostly black. The bar is kinda of dingy but it is a cool atmosphere. After 11:30 most of the bar is rocking....very few people standing around....most people dance. The black chicks will dance with the white dudes....its a really cool place...really laid back!

If you're looking for a good place to grab a beer before hitting the clubs, I definitely recommend the Brickskeller in DuPont Circle. They have over 800 different types of beer in stock...probably more now. Also, it's real close to Wisconsin and M Streets in Georgetown. Real laid back place.

Another good place to chill is the Washington Harbor, just outside the main bar area of Georgetown. They have a few decent bars (a little pricey) centered around a big-ass fountain. Had some luck finding "wives for the night" at that place. It's right on a non-smelly part of the Potomac, and you occasionally see some pretty sweet boats roll into the area. This place has some self-important people, but I imagine if you're writing on this board, you're big enough to put them in their place.
