New Servers Are In Use -- Second Try

Well I stopped in this thread to thank George for installing the new servers,

... and I see he is still selling the ebook which blatantly contains works which I wrote, and violates copyrights.

Hello Dave,

I appreciate your concern -- I know that I would be unhappy if I learned that something I wrote was being used in violation of copyright. Rest assured, this is never the case at EliteFitness.com.

We pay generous royalties for all the content and articles that appear on this site that we have not created ourselves. For example, we pay a royalty to Author L Rea, Nelson Montana, and many others. Additionally, we pay a fee to the writers who helped us with the Player's Guide.

I have checked our records, and I do not see that you have infact ever purchased or read the Player's Guide. If you will submit to me your work that you believe we have used inappropriately and the passages in our book that you believe were taken from your work, I will be happy to look at both with our writers and attorney.

I am eager to listen to your concern. But, if you would like to continue this discussion, I would appreciate your emailing me privately -- posting this to the anabolic discussion board is less than professional.

It's still php and that will be slow no matter what you do with it. I will never understand how this language became so popular when it's so slow.

PHP is fine as far as speed. I don't understand why your complaining. Should they write it in C? There are several sites using vBulletin which are bigger than elite yet don't suffer the same problems.

George, how come inserts are taking so long? I'm assuming it's MySQL backend?

I will do that.

I have always been supportive of you, this board, and yoir business. I have defended you on multiple occaisons when people seemed to forget the fact that this IS a business, and that concerns regarding such must outweight what individuals may "want".

I have found you to be quite fair, hence my surprise when it appeared that someone has obvioulsy misguided your company inb beliveing the work contained within that eboak was theirs, and original, when it is in fact not.

I will take this up with you in private, and I apologize for bring that up here.

And again, its good to see you continue efforts to provide this service and increase its quality by improving the infrastructure behind it.

I resepectully disagree, PHP has nothing to do with the speed of this site, php is a much faster accessing format than an asp page. Im on a few other boards(not related to fitness) that actually have more members than this site and are BLAZING fast, there is a reason all the good boards are using php(Vbulletin being the best, phpbb etc etc)

hmmmm

George, Globix bandwidth is not known to be in the upper rankings of Tier-1 bandwidth providers. Thought I'd let you know. If you shop around, you will see the general consensus is that NAC,Internap, UUNet, Global Crossing, Cable & Wireless, and Yipes are good bandwidth providers. If money is a concern, I would look at Cogent. 100mbit dedicated for $1000 a month. That's cheaper than some T1's. If you want some food for thought, checkout www.webhostingtalk.com . Lots of good hosting info there.

You might want to look at a company called Glorb. I host a server from there amazing speed. You can get as much bandwidth as you would like..The rates are great.

We are aware of the remaining problems and are working on fixing them throughout the day. I appreciate your patience.

oh god- your bringing back nightmares! I had a T1 from Globix at the last place I worked- depending on the day it was somewhere between a 128k-900k line AT BEST. Granted this might have been a fluke- but between that, the co-lo server we had with them and all the morons that worked there...i HATE that company lol

I think a few of you are assuming a lot.

The performance issues may be a matter of bandwidth problems, or processing speed on the part of the servers.

It may be interesting to see details as to the server load, and the overal bandwidth utilization.

George is smart and I think if he seems to be focussing efforts (and money) on increasing server horsepower, that indicates to me that THAT is the bottleneck to performance, not just getting more bandwidth.

I could be wrong (gasp! I am one of the few people on here that would even say such a thing .... LOL) but thats the way it looks.

There is a LOT going on processing wise to create these pages. Think about it, the archive database is huge now. The subscriber base is also huge. Each and every page called for by users is dynamically generated - bringing you a page which is customized based upon your individual settings, upon your request at the time, and also refelcting (in near real-time) the current state of the full database. THAT takes a LOT of horsepower to generate all of those on the fly.

Frankly its amazing that it works as well as it does, and that it normally performs as well as it does. Plus - amazingly there is very very little downtime.

I know of few messages boards, anywhere, that are this complex and work as well as this does.

Anyway its good to see that George is taking steps to make it even better.
