new pr on deads today

Most of you have seen my deadlift video, 500lbs for 9 reps, that was my previous best. I've been hitting them lightly for a while, but started to add weight again recently. Last week I pulled 505lbs for 8 reps (no belt or straps), this morning I pulled 515lbs for 8, and it felt pretty good. If I can add continue to add weight over the next few weeks I'll post up another video

Thanks guys, actually I have pulled 600lbs, no belt or straps. Could have gone heavier but it was the first time I've done a max single in years. Here is a link to the pic that was shot when I did it, it was about 8 months ago

Probably first week of July, I'm sitting at 235lbs now, hoping for 240 before I start the diet

Hy Needsize,
How did you get your grip that strong??? After about 455 my grip starts to give. and I cant perform more than 2 without straps. Any suggestions....

On strength levels I have to say that s one major ass deadlift, keep it up.

Fuck you NS.....that's all I have to say

:) Good job man

Suston, its all about the chalk my friend. My grip's never failed with chalk.

my girl (nonerz) hit a PR today too.

she pulled a 235x1 with straps, sumo style (spatts inspired...)

her 215 was fast, this one was a bit slower but her form didnt break.

then i took her through 4x3x155 with 15 second breaks between sets. those are fun!

keep it up needsize....lord suston, on your last set and rep of deads, after you get it up, stand there and hold it for as long as can. Hold untill your calluses rip and your hands just cant take it anymore. Its done wonders for my grip strength

I've never really done anything special for grip, just always avoided straps and my grip progressed along with everything else. I've started targetting lately anyway, to bring up forarm size a bit, so I've been finishing my set of deads, say 8 on 515lbs, then locking out for 20-30 seconds at the end. Then when my entire back routine is finished, I'll do some farmers walks around the gym with the 125lb db's. Thats the only time my grip ever fails, but it blows my forearms up like crazy

nonerz, great work, thats a great pull!

gymrat, if it wasnt for one manager there, they probably would have kicked my ass out, I'm far too pretty for that place!!!

cuz tony's a prick and it would be even worse there, I like it at the club, for the most part people leave me alone, hell, I've been breaking the no chalk rule since day 1 and no one has said a word to me. The thing that bugs me the most is the personal trainers, especially when they go up to someone that I taught and tell them they are doing the exercise wrong....

Yeah the PT's are dicks.

Why is Tony a prick? He's seemed ok with me.

I dont know him myself, but I had a few buddies that were competitive sized bodybuilders that went over there, and they said he was a complete jerk to anyone who was bigger than him. I've also talked to a lot of people that say he yells at anyone that makes noise when training, and you cant deadlift this kind of weight without making some noise.

thanks...I know I have a long way to go, but I felt really good about it. I can already feel it a bit today (lower back)...I'm sure tomorrow will be even "better." I've reset my goals...250, then 275, then 300. Who knows, I just may be able to do it! :)

as far as straps go, my grip really gives out after a few reps beyond 135. Upon the advice of one of the ladies on the women's board, I reluctantly bought some straps...but I only use them when I need them, not for every pull. I know, I'm a _____ (fill in the blank) but I am more concerned with pulling MORE weight than having a kung fu grip!:karate: With my sissy straps, I can move up my weights without freaking out about dropping the bar...

nonerz, if you need to use the straps during the deads, just try and do some extra grip work afterwards, and it'll catch up eventually

I don't think I've done anything to specifically work on my grip. Until recently, I've never used straps so I figured my grip would get worked by default. What do you suggest?
