not overly impressed here. Doesn't look better than far cry on the 360. The textures look kind of bland, like cartoonlike almost. And I think that's where the weakness of the ps3 lies because it's Gpu isn't as good as the 360. The cell processor has impressive physics though..........that was some of the most realistic character animation I've ever seen. I was struck by how well the dude looked who was burning.
If this is a beta version.....it's running on emulation hardware right? basically a super gaming rig emulating the ps3 parameters........right? Sony is well reknowned for making these seem like what their hardware will put out. They've been doing this for years.
It's a semi-open beta. People have been playing the multiplayer portion on their PS3s for about a month now. Now they get to play the campaign.
It's been a pretty common thing to dog the PS3 ever since Sony's cocky debut, but they've increasingly been proving the system's capabilities so it gets kinda old hearing it lol. Overall the PS3 has the 360 beat on graphical capabilities. The first game that suggested this was Uncharted, which was made only a year after it launched. Numerous review sites and gaming forums have voted it the best looking console game.

Then you have games like MGS4, most technically impressive console game by far. I haven't even seen a PC game do some of the things it does.
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, most realistic driving sim.
Heavy Rain, already looking to be the most cinematic game while still under development.
The reason for this is the Cell processor has a lot of bandwidth, and can assist the gpu in rendering/texture streaming capabilities. There are youtube videos of it rendering near-PS2 quality graphics at a steady frame rate by itself, so a stronger gpu isn't entirely necessary.
I've played Gears of War a year after the 360 came out and it looks damn good, but the Unreal Engine has limitations. Can't get away from that glassy charcoal-like texture mapping. And considering it and Gears 2 are largely considered the 360's best looking games, I really don't think there's much left to pull out of the system. It's much easier to program for and it hasn't matched the best graphics PS3 has had to offer so far.
Also, while many multiplat games do look better on 360, in some cases it's not entirely true, especially when you have gaming websites that seemingly play favorites-

I can see myself getting another 360 to play Gears 2, but I think the PS3 has a quite a bit longer legs. We haven't even seen what God of War 3 will be like yet.
