I want to get a new boat, although I know this is a terrible decision but it would be so fun!!!

I want to get a new car, the new 2008 Cadillac CTS with 300 HP has caught my eye and is pretty affordable but Cadillac has a label of black and trashy on it!!

Both are terrible investments but I'm going to get one or the other so help a brother out.. what kind of car shall I get and what is a good boat (NOT a yacht)

get a bmw or benz man

what kind of boat? malibu? tige? mastercraft? im buyin a care but im gettin a boat next year for the family

Do you ski or wakeboard or jsut want oen to go out with the family on? Mastercraft at one time had a boat with a cadillac engine in it... they may still. There's no other wakeboarding boat besides a Mastercraft.

If you're talking about a lake boat (less than 35 ft or so) Cobalt, Crownline, Rinker are all reputable makes. If you want a cigarette boat... Top Gun.

If you're just out compensating for other inadequacies get a Skater.

???? malibu???

Go with the boat, you wont regret it. There is nothing else like being out on the water. I could go on and give you many reasons but itll be too long.

I can't afford both. I really like the mastercrafts but never seen a tige or malibu. I may actually look into a Cobalt also b/c they are made here in the same state I live.

I don't have a family so just really one to go out w/ some friends, have some beers. I don't live by any ocean so over 35' is not something I want. I like to ski but never have wakeboarded but looks fun

the cobalt ss/sc is a nice car plus you can get the stage kits from gm which keep your warranty and get up around 300hp

I'm in the same postition as you.

I cant decide on a new boat or car. I really want a boat! You are only young once.

I'm looking at a crownline something or other. Cant decide how big of a boat i want either.

I say go for the boat. You only live once.

Aren't you the same guy who is trying to save to buy a house in a year?

It's your money but I would put my money towards the house instead of a depreciating vehicle or a boat which you WILL get tired of.

ya but the reason I'm buying a new house is b/c I'm getting married therefore I'll have two incomes. A boat is so much more fun than a house! But also if I got a new boat I'd need a new truck.. Maybe they could sell me both for a discout!

You dont have a truck to pull it?

I'd get a truck first if thats the direction you are going in.

Wait to get a boat until you at least have the house and truck and are comfy with the payments and have no other debt. You dont want to have that much debt on things that dont at least hold their value ya know? You'd be up shit creek if something happend to one of you.

^^^Exactly, plus dont forget about all the extra expenses that come up that you dont realize in both a house and a boat. They are both expensive to maintain, but are great things to own.

I have a 2001 chevy silverado crew cab.. I can pull it easily.. just got a lot of miles on the truck and was thinking about upgrading.. I wish I could afford both.. I've actually decided not to get either.. I am buying my fiance a small, cheap house for the next year (before we move in together) and then going to rent it out once we fix it up and she moves out

You can get a 10 year old Cobalt that is nicer than a lot of new boats. A capitan's call (exhaust) is a must on a big cobalt. Get one with the VolvoPenta 7.4 liter or whatever it is. Cobalts are beautiful. They're made in KS right? I have a place on lake of the ozarks in MO. With a 19' mastercraft and a 23' mariah... I can only take jetskis out on the weekends on that lake. There are 6ft waves everywhere on the weekends on LOTO. In 2000 a 30ft boat got swamped on those waters.

I know most of the lakes on the MO side...

You';ve got to get soemthing with a fucking huge V8... get a nice cobalt in the 26-30 ft range. A rinker would also fucking rock.

between these boats a Cobalt always wins...

Four Winns
Cobalt
Sea Ray
Rinker
Crownline
VIP
Maxum
(insert any other run of the mill boat)
Mariah (unless pre 2000)

I'd still get a Cobalt over a small Fountain, TopGun, VIP, Donzi (not worth the money unless you get the 45zx)

A new boat will retain more value, but a new car will cost you less to maintain and you will get more usage out of it.

The best two days of owning a boat are:
1) the day you buy it
2) the day you sell it

I'd buy a used boat personally, in many cases you can buy a boat used and sell it for the same or more 1-2 years later when you are tired of it.

Boats are lots of added expense. Just rent a boat for now. It sounds like you need a little bit of experience with them before you decide you want one. Don't forget that you have to pay to store it and have a good sized truck to pull it, etc. They tend to have problems LOTS that have to be fixed. So, if you are not mechanically inclined and don't plan on taking it out every weekend, it may not be worth it.
