Neil Peart

Do you judge "good" by speed and technique or just what style they play?

All of the above, but add to that versatility. That includes other percussion instruments, other instruments in general and/or lyric writing, etc......

That's one of the main reasons I am a huge fan of Neil Peart. Of course, I do also enjoy Rush's music period, so maybe I am a little prejudice towards his abilities.

Anyone who knows their musical history can have a valid opinion on any subject. You think you have to be a football player to know which one is good and which one is bad? Even if you only listen to one very specific kind of music, you have to as a musician respect these other drummers on technical ability alone.

Anyway, my girlfriend has been playing drums longer than you buddy. I have met allot of drummers in my time(including all that I mentioned above) and I doubt a single one would slag on another professional drummer, especially Neil Pert. That is like me(a singer and guitar player) saying Maynard James Keenan is a shitty singer.

You still haven't mentioned which drummers you like. I practiced next to Pete Sandoval for a few months, do you think he is a "good" drummer? Do you judge "good" by speed and technique or just what style they play?
"Anyone who knows their musical history can have a valid opinion on any subject. You think you have to be a football player to know which one is good and which one is bad?"

No,but you think you know the game better than a pro,or any player on the field for that matter?

"Anyway, my girlfriend has been playing drums longer than you buddy"

hhaha, big shit, and Ill still kick her ass. There are things about members here that you don't know, and me being the best percussionist here is one of them.

"You still haven't mentioned which drummers you like"

Please refer to my post above stating, dennis chambers, and dave weckyl

"I practiced next to Pete Sandoval for a few months, do you think he is a "good" drummer? Do you judge "good" by speed and technique or just what style they play?"

No pete is good, not great, fast feet(thanx to tweek),sloppy hands.Style has nothing to do with whom I "decide" is good.

Your preaching to the choir son.You need to accept the fact that some people know more about certain things than you, just as I'm sure you know certain things I do not.Difference between us is,I would be able to accept it.

Do you think I dont know who Dave Weckl or Dennis Chambers are? Are you a pro? Do you have a record contract since your so amazing? Who have you recorded with?
There are tons of amazing drummers out there including Chambers and Weckl as well as Ginger Baker, Bill Bruford,Tim Alexander,Keith Moon, etc etc. Point being, what the hell are you arguing about? How can you say Dennis Chambers is "better" than Neil Pert? Now, you can not dislike Pert's style for whatever reason but to say that the drummers I mentioned are not good is retarded and you know it. If you were a decent drummer at all you wouldn't talk shit to other drummers. Are you in a band? With your ego I doubt it. Maybe your a great drummer, and if thats true I hope you dont have that attitude when you talk to other drummers because I have met Dennis Chambers and they guy is very humble.

You act like I am a newbie and dont know about how great your drumming is, well thats fine but prove it.Post up some links to your drumming. If your better than Pert I sure would like to hear it.

For reference:
Here's the complete list of the top 25 drummers of all time, from a poll taken for Modern Drummer's 25th anniversary(which I would assume was voted on by ONLY drummers):

Music appreciation is SUBJECTIVE!

What is great to one person, is crap to another.

We used to argue about which musician was better when we were kids.

There is NO better or worse. If it appeals to you then it will be good in your opinion.

Music isn't a competition, it is a form of expression.

*btw I'm 35 and have been playing guitar since the age of 12. I have toured the continent playing professionally and have taught music for over 10 years. Does that make my opinion any more valid than someone else's. I don't think so, even if I would like to believe so. ;)

You said ringo starr:lmao:

And your wrong again,I never said he sucked,I simply said he's not the worlds best,or even one of.He's old news man, keep up with the times for a valid arguement.

Pert is old news but Dave Weckl and Dennis Chambers are not? Interesting logic. Stromba summed it up- music is sujective but I still think you aren't shit if your going around talking trash about other drummers. You still didn't mention if your a pro drummer.

I will let Pete know his hands are sloppy. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of that one.

Also, I didn't make that list with Ringo on it, DRUMMERS did! Did you not read that it is from Modern Drummer Magazine? Again, to deny Ringo's influence is retarded. The Beatles are only a wee bit influencial in just about all forms of music and that's a fact- regarldless if you like the Beatles or not.

Joey Jordinson would school you. If your better than that I would know who you are.

I don't know shit about drummers, but Big Red knows his music Sermon. Much like we didn't know you were a drummer, there are plenty of things about Big Red the board doesn't know either.......but he does know his music, FACT.
