Needsize 5x5 Question - Compress?

Hi,

I posted here recently to get some help on re-writing my routine. My current routine is here:

I was looking at the 5x5 program (5x5 on major anchor excersises, all of which I do, and 2x8 on auxillery exercises, with progressive loading).

My question is whyyyyyy (I so dislike whining) do I have to have a weekly cycle rather than a 4 day cycle (
day 1- chest/tri/forarms/abs
day 2- legs/shoulder
day 3- back/bicep/forarms/abs
day 4- rest).

Must there be 7 days rest? What is the reason? I thought muscles recovered in 48 hours.

Anyway, I'll be posting my revised workout probably later, but would like to get some insight on compressing the 5x5 from a week to 4 days. Seriously it just drives me nuts not to go to the gym.

you could split it up and go 3 days a week. mon wed fri, mon wed fri. and do like doggcrapp frequency wise. where you are working the body part once every 5 days instead of 7. i think with that split...if you were to go on a 4 day cycle, you would overtrain. if you want to go to the gym that bad, do some cardio on off days and some extra stretching to help aid in recovery and hyperplasia.

even there i would change around day 2 and day 4. so much shoulder is involved in chest and so much tricep in shoulders. seems like they would need at least one day of recovery. i would do that rotation with maybe a day in between day 2 & day 3. then take a day off on day 4 and start over. most people can handle the recovery times.

another thing you could do:
do that rotation that i described above and then after about a month take about 5 days off, and start over. the metal militia boys take a week off after every 3-4 so they continue to make gains and not fry their body. might be worth looking into.
