Needsize 5x5 and Back Pain

So how does one counteract the stress pain that comes on in the lower back when doing Needsize's 5x5 ab TUT routine? Every time I do it I have pain in the small of my back for hours. I was thinking about starting to work on progressions for the Dragonflag but am afraid this will further aggravate this problem. Any suggestions?
