I recently purchased and lost a money order, requiring me to go through the process of cancelling it and getting my money back. In hindsight I've learned that a USPS money order has a hold for something crazy like 6months while they determine if the MO has been cashed or not. I think waiting even a week for a MO you know is destroyed is too long, so if anyone plans on buying a secure payment for any purchases, check the policy before you hand over your dough. Moneygram and even a gas station money order can be cancelled out on sight but the postal ones take forever!
