need to buy a new car

I'm moving hella far away from my school and need to buy a new car cause I cant drive my brothers nice suv for 2 reasons
1. waste of gas
2. dont wanna put too many miles on it

my budget is around 10-15k

not looking for any old ass pieces of shits, though I want it to be somewhat cool

i was looking at sab, honda, maybe acura, I guess toyota...

give me some ideas here

Go to a dealership, and get a 2-3 year old "certified pre-owned" Honda or Toyota. You'll get a reliable car in great shape, with an extended warranty, at a decent price.

...avoid the Saabs and 'status' cars like the plague. The first time your ride breaks down and leaves you walking, you'll wish you had gone the jap-car route. I drove a 900 Turbo while in college, and so much of my student loan money went into constant work on that P.O.S., it's not even funny.

an acura for 10-15? at that price you might be able to get a 5 year old, 80k miles introductory model.

well warranty has to be there, we got 2 luxury cars and they always break down(little things) but the thing is that to fix that little fuck up it costs shitload, thanks god cars come with warranty though.
I just started looking at new cars and can find some decent brand new cars for that price I guess... havent looked at cars for a while

id buy a 2-3 year old car rather than a new car. a 2-3 year old is usually 60% as much as a new and its still in really good condition.

I drive my girlfriend Miata and it is great. I spend about $20 a week and I drive 2 hours each way to work in Beverly Hills.

I dont think i can fit in that thing

how about wolkswagen

If you spend 15k on a 3 year old civic, sentra, or corolla I feel bad for you. You could buy a ncie 95 bmw m3 for 15k. Not that it's what you'relooking for but just saying. Acura Integra GSR would be a good deal for what you're looking for. Nice, reliable, prolly has leather, pretty fast. I also wouldn't personally buy one from a dealership but that's jsut me. You're gonna spend an extra 4k just so you can have a warranty. It's a jap car,if it has less than 100k miles it's gonna run for a long time more and prolly won't break. parts are cheap anyways and I ebt you could find someone you know to do the ork for you for cheap. You could even do it yourself if necessary.

The Miata does have a lot of room. I'm 6'1 280lbs and my knee hits the steering wheel sometimes but it is still fun to drive. I think I might try to fit into a Cooper Mini. I like the looks of them.

lol miata is a bitch car. don't get that

get a used accord or new civic...

or an older audi a4 (2001)...they changed the body style so even 2001's with 30-40k miles are cheap

well im 6'6, not big big but pretty tall, I still need space to put my bags for school and my bball practice in there somewhere and I dont even kno where im gonna put all that

anyway, I also put my eye on the nissan frontier truck just cause Im need a truck to move my stuff to new house plus it gets pretty good milage, and of course is somewhat cheap I guess

and about having a nice car, me and my brother have 2 luxury suvs and we share them so thats not a big problem... thats why i dont wanna get an old bmw, all the service fees arent gonna be worth it

Actually, I have two 99' RL 3.5's on my lot one has 67,000 miles the other has navi and 19's and 88,000 miles they are both between 15-16,000..............hardly an intro model........

You can get a new Ford Focus ZX3 in that price range.

What!Ford focus is a peice of shit.Buy a Nissan,Toyota or a Honda. All three are known for reliability even with a ton of miles and some are resonably priced.

I got a Honda acoord 4 cyl and has 100k + miles on it. I bought it new for 16k +tax warr etc. in 1994. Good car.

i went to couple of dealerships today and one guy was giving me a nisan altima 02 with 11k miles on it for 15000 bucks, it was a pretty damn good deal, but it wasnt automatic, also I found a bmw 3 series I think for 12-13k but it was 90k miles on it although he was givin me 2 year 24k mile warranty on it... plus all these prices are negotiatable...

Dude, dealership and damn good deal do not go together my friend.

Private sellers with all the paperwork proving they hav edoen the maintenance is the way to go. Especially if the car is under warranty.

There are several used car buying guides out there, if you're willing to do a little work you will literaly save 000s

need to watch out for cars in the 60,000 miles and up... thats about the time a timing belt/water pump should be done and that'll run about $400... So factor that into the price of the car, or see if there is proof that its been done.

Could look at carmax or kbb (kelly blue book) and price the cars you are interested in... i'm looking for a used 4runner or land cruiser in the 13-15k range...

That's what I'd recommend!!! A used Jetta TDI still looks good and you get ridiculous mileage for driving!!!

Cars sites like KBB and edmunds are a fucking joke. All they are is a guide, and none of them can agree on the same market value for a car!!!

what the problem with that is that those people cant give you warranty if the cars original warranty has already run out, and usually if you take it to the dealership you cant get a warranty there either if its just some used car

now if you buy it at a good private dealership the guy can still offer you the dealerships warranty for few years or something...

I did find a good jetta that was around 15k with very low miles but I just started lookin at cars today so we'll see

as long as the car has a warranty pretty much everythings fine...
but im still not trying to buy a car with over 50k miles, we'll see though

I have a '91 Honda with 164,000 miles on it, still tight as a drum, so maybe I'm a little prejudiced. I think that Honda ownership is basically painless. But the current series of Civics are BORING. The '96-'2001 Civic was a decent car though, and a top-model EX would fit in his price range.

But everyone I know who owns a Focus has had good luck so far, and the ZX3 is a decent drive, with room for a tall driver, and a new one is pretty cheap, and the dealers will DEAL. Sure beats the hell out of a Neon, Cavalier/Sunbird, or Saturn.

man I just picked up some car magazines that they have at groccery stores, theres some good shit you can buy actually for 15k, like a damn good subaru 2001

jetta's are shit... 50% of the girls I hang out w/ up here have em and they all hate em (little shit breaks very frequently)

Ever buy a car on Ebay?

i hear kias are crap. plus they are only aboutg $9k this guy's looking to spend 10-15k.

I would do what everyone is saying and look at toyota corollas or honda civics at autotrader.com. You can get a damn reliable 2-3 year old 30k milke car and purchase an independent warranty with a $0 deductible that will cover you for the next 5 years/90k miles for about $10k total. Around where i live on autotrader a 2001-2002 with 15-35k miles is $9k.

so buy a car from a private party that is still under the original warranty from the manufacturer. warranties are transferrable.

The new toyota corrolla is a nice vehicle. The inside is very clean and it looks decent. Its not great on power, but great on mileage.

If your in the right area(cali), a Scion Xa is a great deal and well equiped at 13k. Unless you are a freak and like the look of the Xb, which is still a good vehicle.

VWs and Audis both tend to have lots of small problems and higher than average warranty claims.

I still am leanining towards an 03 altima(nissan) the looks are pretty good and so is the price.. it costs less than 15 too
