I play fingerstyle lap accoustic, will never buy a Weissenborn, but can afford one of these beauties. I have always wanted a hollow neck, and these are of excellent quality for less than 2k.

On a purely visual tip, which do you think looks best? I am floundering about the decision:

:lmao: That was what I was thinking. The guys you give two dollars to to go play at someone elses table and leave you the hell alone.

I like number 1.

The rope binding is very ethnic looking.

Mariachi bands rarely have lap style players... :lmao:

Chefy - Aren't you a man of MANY talents?! I like #2...

DreamBooty Woman! Long time...

Among other weird things, I do a blues radio show every sunday night and pretty much am addicted to guitars. My wife constantly has to slap me down when in the vacinity of a vintage guitar store... good thing she is so damn tough, or baby would be barefoot... ;)

No one seems to dig the rope binding (3 & 4, the multicolored wood inlay at the edges), I was kind of into that funky old'timey look... but I will most likely go with #1, has the best top wood (select spruce), you can really see the character of the wood in that picture too...

I like #2. I love the rich color of the wood.

I had a feeling you would, its a very character rich wood (Canadian Red Ceder), great stuff, but a little soft for the long haul: gets dinged up pretty quick and tends to shift and warp a bit under less than perfect conditions if you plan to keep the guitar for decades, which I hope to. On the bright side, it's tone quality is REALLY warm, which helps out with such a shallow body.

These are a couple of images of a hollow neck made from fantastic quality, highly flamed Koa, front-back-and sides, its about four times the price of the guitars I listed in that first post, you can see why, lol. Ask Velvet about the price of artist grade, Book Matched, Curly Koa.

The guy with the questionable shirt is Bob Brozman, if you are into slide in any serious way, you know Bob. LOOK AT THAT GUITAR. holy shit

As long as I am not going to toss up 5k or so on that koa beauty (tears) the tone and longevity for the Sitka spruce that is on number one is the shit, hands down... but I too, REALLY like the richness of the ceder. Hard call.

Hmm, I guess you DO have to look at more than just the richness and beauty of it. Just let me know what you decide.

(But I still like #2) :)

I definitely like that first one you just posted. And half the price? Even better! I hope you get it. Once again, you better let me know. :)

BTW, that second one is very cool and all that, but I'm still leaning toward the first one. I guess I am a more simple kinda girl. ;)

You beat me to it -- the striped edge binding looks entirely too "Mexican."

You want mojo? Mahagany = mojo. I LOVE all-mahogany flattops, like the Martin D17, Guild D4, Gibson LG0, that sort of thing, so an all-mahogany hollow-neck would be way cool. I bet it sounds big and warm and friendly.

Hey, for $500 (if it stays there) this is a find. I just noticed the Dobro book on his sofa, I think he is a resonator junkie like myself.

The finish is a little iffy, the 'binding' looks like it is really a dark red permanent marker. Waiting on more images from the seller. The only other questions are the kind of cheesie looking bridge... all that can be changed once I get my refinishing/inlay crazy paws on it.

If it really sucks, I will get some funky inlay going into the fretboard and headstock and resell the bugger, but i think the moho will sound so comfy warm that I might just settle into this baby.

That is a point well made and well taken. Buying on ebay is always a tough call in that regard, and after I called the seller on the phone, as well as some research on his name*, some points came up that screamed: DO NOT BUY THIS AXE.

He was not completely open about the maker of the guitar, and when after 3 different search engines I couldn't find the name or one comment online about the luthier, I had to assume he wasn't giving me the right name for a reason. I asked him twice. That makes things kind of shaddowy. Next: he is under investigation for fraud, mismanagement of funds and plagiarizing the work of a doctoral candidate under his realm of influence. He is a cheater, basicly. Same guy, did the searches on his name, asked him if he was a professor at ********* university, he said yes. He is a sleazball.

So: questionable guitar, and I really don't feel like giving my money to a guy like this. Who knew this was going to turn into such a soap opera.

Back to your point, Radar, I know a bunch of folks that have bought guitars made by the luthier that makes numbers 1-4, every single one LOVES the fit, finish and musicality of them and said without reservation: buy from that company, its worth every penny. This other guy had a guitar with pretty wood, but I dont buy 'wall hangers'. If I don't want to play it, then fuggedaboutit.

Good thing you did your homework.......i've played for over 30 yrs in various bands, and i would never purchase anything after taking it for a test run, by that i don't mean 10 minutes either, sound, quality, and the feel after playing hours is what counts, if its not confortable i'm not having it. BTW i would love to pick on some of those jewels you posted. :)
