Ok, so I hit the gym today and did legs.. hadn't done them in a while (i know, shame on me :()..anyway, I quite possibly went at it too hard, compensating for missed time, I suppose..

Now my quads refuse to function.. I mean, I can barely walk because if I don't walk stiff-legged (like frankenstein), and bend at the knee, my thigh is too weak right now to support my weight and I literally fall on my ass.. my dog hit my knee from behind and I tumbled to the floor and didn't even have the strength in my legs to get myself back up, I had to crawl to my bed, and lift myself up with my arms..

Wtf did I do to myself? I can't even do a quad extension in a chair.. fuck weights, I cant do it just sitting there.. :(

What do I do?!?

good luck with that, Mr. Discipline. next time you won't miss legs, will you? take a friggin' bath and try not to drown.

lol.. i just got outta the bath, you know how hard it was to get up?

So what's actually causing this to happen?

put some heat on those babies and massage the hell out of em.. take hot showers, try stretching them a bunch, take some pain relievers(advil, motrin, etc), then once they get all better (should see some improvement by the third day..they will be very sore), get back in the gym and hit it just as hard

i know wut ur feeling i was out for an injury for 6 months.. and when i came back my first day at legs i had the TCU work out ( 6 sets of 10 reps and weight increases) o boy the next day i thought i was paralyzed and the third day was the worst but by the fourth i was golden again

it's a leg thing. you could never possibly train your arms with the same intensity. just think about it. could you do easy reps with 2 or 3 hundred pounds on any arm exercise? and you did that with untrained legs.

Hot bath, steam room, rst, and plenty of water and good food. massage would help your cause as well. How many seys did you do overall? You may have possibly overtrained them in general. Don't not work out your legs. Lesson learned. Ride it out. If today was the first day, you might be in even more trouble tomorrow I hate to say.

i literally feel like someone disconnected the nerve endings.. like my brain just cant get the impulse down to the quad nerves and they refuse to fire :(

yeah, this has happened before.. i went to walk my dog and i fell in the grass because my legs couldnt support me

You didnt do anything wrong..I think we all remember the first time we stepped infront of the squat rack...never had done squats...wondering what to do...then the next day you had to roll...litteraly out of bed just so you could push yourself with your arms up...comes with the territory my friend..massage them and they will get better...you want to know the worse part...WAIT TILL YOU DO SQUATS AGAIN...NOW THATS EVEN BETTER (WORSE) PAIN.

my awesome g/f is coming over.. she's gonna massage one leg and I am gonna massage the other :) she's also picking me up some bananas and bengay

Did i just exhaust all the ATP to be found in those muscles? I am just wondering what the physiological reasoning behind it is..

drink lots of fluids.. u have to get that lactic acid out...there is a mchince called "Kneading Fingers" its a massager that will work miracles for u

STRETCH. Stretching is still the most overlooked part of training. Get on the floor and do some yoga or martial arts stretching. Do something like 3 or 4, 15 minute sessions at home throughout the day. You will recover much quicker and feel alot better. I've had the same happen to me many of times. You get the legs of a newborn calf. Like fkn Bambi on ice, and look like a total fool trying to walk.

Flame me for this but my experience has taught me NO HEAT the day of or next day. Only ICE then heat is OK on day 2/3/4...

Heat the same day "can" promote swelling and "blood rushing" to the effected area.

good luck anyway, I suspect you'll be sore for 3-4 days.

please keep us updated.

Yeah, I typically would agree.. but inflammation isn't the only cause here.. built up lactic acid among other things, along with cramps.. heat helps to soften up the tissue and help bring blood to the fucked up area.. maybe someone else can chime in and correct the both of us? :p

yeah bro.. after your feelin better man.. your legs will be rock solid let me assure you. you will feel like a fukin tank
Yeah, it's just the first leg day in a while is so scary.. i've been putting it off purposely, for this exact reason

I guess also with that brutal workout on those untrained legs, you broke most of the muscle fibers so literally is like you have little to no muscle to function in that area; I don't know if stretching would be good right now....rest and nutrition of course will be the most important thing right now.

I am afraid that you just have to wait it out, you maybe pulled or strained something, let the pain be your guide.

I am talking a couple of days off legs too,

because of a silly quad injection, 1.5 cc of t-300 it feels like I injected motor oil.

I know t-400 is horrible, at least for me, I am starting to think even t-300 is almost as tough to inject.

I had a real bad experience with heat on my triceps one time in 1987, they blew up 3 or 4x the normal size and my piss went real dark all because I rubbed some heat cream on them same day. Next day could not tie my tie, brush my teeth and it took all my will to work the gear shift on the way to Dr. Office. Since then, I use ice the same day and avoid heat so far it has worked.

heavy duty u are absolutely right.. wait to heat for 72hrs.. i frogot bout that rule of thumb lol ice will contract the muscles and tighten them so u might be even more sore.. but strech stretch strech... a long muscle is a strong muscle

LOL i feel for ya bro ........ but 2 things to remeber Quads are a big muscle and even when you tear the fiber and atp has been depletd There come the endorphins natural pain killer from the body which lessons the pain the problem is there is not enough endorphins to help So the PAIN IS BAD TRUST me I know this ........ the only think you can do is ride it out Some advile is good .. to help But all the bengay is not going to help when the deep muscle fibers are whipped ....... but on a possitve note now the body will responde with more endorphions........ thus each work out better and better ...........Oh and when The body deplets endorphins... its puts a strain on nervious system and even your amuion system ...... so take extra multi and added VitC

there have been times I've hit calves and hamstrings so hard they cramped for 10 minutes as soonas I got off the machine. And after they stopped cramping I hit them again. I would say suck it up. I have been sore for 2 weeks from 1 leg wourkout

I would say try to stretch it out as best as you can and do all the recovery things and do them overboard

might want to wait 7-10 days before hitting the legs again.
let all systems recover.

You got some deep Hypertrophy there mang.

maybe this one workout put an inch on my legs! lol

Mike,

Start riding a stationary bike ASAP, you need to work the lactic acid out.

best advice i can give u is opposite what some people will say, u didnt hurt anything like sword said, when that happens what helps me is staying on my feet, walking the pain out and ur body will get used 2 it and ur legs will toughen up, goodluck
